    It is so appropriate that this comic is from Russia.

    I don’t think the cartoonist is playing on the slang term “phishing” but rather on the traditional use of fishing analogies. The internet hooks folks and keeps them spellbound.

    (grr @ ViewsLatinAmerica)

    As for phishing…

    I used to read comics on dial up in the late ’90s and into about ‘04. Dial up was faster than what I have now because of the way websites are set up, and phishing. What I mean is that my anti-phishing program sometimes takes two minutes to open a cartoon, or not at all.

    ^^^ @Rock I think you might be mistaking phishing for anti-spyware/malware or even an anti-virus program?

    Phishing is the art of getting you to cough up valuable information under false pretences and is commonly done through emails posing to be from a company you might do business with, usually a bank or paypal or even facebook (the 2 most common companies they pretend to be from). You might then be taken to a spoof website that convinces you that it is genuine and you provide the valuable info. And then get ripped off. An anti-spam program might run on your incoming email to detect known phishing techniques, signatures or sources but not on an actual website.

    (the “ph” is a nod at the original phreaker term; from the ’50s I think)

    @tcl It’s an oldie but it’s a pun, I like.

    I might have mentioned this pun site before. Also read Frank and Ernest

    On the subject of what is wrong with my 5 1/2 year old computer: I had a little graph at the bottom that said anti-phishing, but that is gone, I know I have some malware that McAfee VirusScan and Malwarebytes can’t find. Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP sp3

    http://www.toilette-humor.com/ is about PG13

    @Rock: As far as I know, Microsoft will still support SP3 for a few more years (the install base is too vast to ignore and they aren’t all upgrading to Windows 7), it’s SP2 that has had its support ended last July.

    For free malware scanners you could try Trendmicro http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    or Bitdefender http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

    If you don’t want to click on my urls, look them up but do take care you are going to their websites.

    (thx for the pun url ;-) and the time lapsed maps)
