Uncle Floyd for the win! And boy howdy, did I have a crush on Sally Starr as a child.

Ooh, Clutch Cargo. Those Synchro-Vox’ed human mouths that they superimposed on the carton characters were really creepy.

And my mother was none too happy when I would draw on the TV screen with my crayons when watching Winky Dink without using the special vinyl screen cover that they sold.

Bullwinkle all of the way (for what is shown). What does HRM have against LoonyToons? And where are Johnny Quest, Tobar the 8th man, and Speed Racer? Seems there are a lot of options that could be used instead of Soupy Sales 3×.

Best first-round matchups: Yogi Bear vs. Gumby, Bozo vs. Felix the Cat, Flintstones vs. Jetsons, Heathcliff vs. Garfield, Smurfs vs. Pac-Man, Transformers vs. GI Joe.

Biggest routs: Mighty Mouse over Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry over Tom Terrific, Soupy Sales over Tele-Comics, Hong Kong Phooey over Superfriends.

Aw c’mon! You expect us to believe Speed Racer — a character that’s fundamentally based on the concept of competition — didn’t even make it into the tournament?!

In a stunning upset, Hong Kong Phooey defeats Mighty Mouse in the Final, when MM is distracted by Oil Can Harry tying Pearl Pureheart to a log in the sawmill…again. An all-Soupy Sales final would be interesting, too.

Sally Starr! OMG, growing up in Chester County, she was my goddess! With her director Uncle Walt Wagonhurst! Yes! And Willie the Worm! I’d almost forgotten him. But Pab didn’t mention Captain Chesapeake, who was the Baltimore cartoon host.

Top Cat, Gigantor (which I link in my mind with AstroBoy— must have watched them together), and my very young fave, Kimba the White Lion (which Disney ripped off for Lion King). I started watching that on YouTube, and Kimba escaped from a freighter that he had been aboard at sea for over a month, and SWAM back. A whole episode or two, it seemed, of him just swimming.

He’s the greatest. He’s fantastic. Wherever there’s danger he’ll be there. He’s the ace. He’s amazing. He’s the strongest, he’s the quickest, he’s the best.

    Says it all, really.
