Somebody once said, “Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it, those who do learn from history are condemned to watch the repeats…”

So what will we learn from all of this? Trump is a radical break from the past, but history will surely have its say. Trump is fixated on on the present and on himself, chiefly polls and the number of rivals he has destroyed. His historical illiteracy may wind up being as costly as JFK’s grasp of the past was beneficial. To JFK, history taught that pride, emotion and hurry were the enemies of the good. A crisis is no time for a trigger or a Twitter finger. Unfortunately, just about everything in terms of American and global history seems new to Trump.

Americans, on the whole have an absolute ability to ignore “History” until it not only bites them in the butt, but chews, swallows and starts digesting the chunk – this has happened in the past and is happening AGAIN! I guess a person actually has to have sat through the McCarthy Hearings in the early fifties and actually SEEN the lives destroyed by the lies and insinuations based upon what probably was, initially, a grocery list he waved around as a list of “Commies” he’d ‘dug up’!

We have an honored “Western” tradition, however, as the story of Cassandra in Troy as recounted by Homer shows, to indicate that ignoring “Prophecy” (as deciphering history is often couched) has hardly ever been a good idea!

Until we (the collective ‘we’ of ALL Americans) decide to start electing people of INTELLIGENCE AND INTEGRITY instead of someone with whom we’d like to “have a beer”, this intellectual downward slide will continue and, in all likelihood, accelerate! People, the guy or gal at the end of the bar sucking down the ‘suds’ is NOT doing that to stimulate their brain, they’re doing it to deaden and/or kill the cells within that brain!

If Cheeto Mussolini wasn’t so enamored with Putin, I might expect him to say something like “Believe me, the best way to make America Great Again is to invade Russia this winter. No one has ever had such a great idea before! We can’t possibly lose! Best plan EVER!”
