The article I read about this in had stated that during the cold war, the US had generally avoided military parades like this because we didn’t want to look as militaristic as our cold war opponents. Funny how modern day freedom loving Republicans have no problem with the President looking and acting like a dictator…. so long as he’s in the right political party.
