Tax cuts, wars, social spending. No one wants to pay taxes, and everyone wants to blow everyone else’s sh-t up or send their kids to school or get healthcare.
As long as the GOP wants to fight wars and not pay for them, we will be borrowing from China. And, sadly, long after that because it takes so long to pick up the pieces.

you are correct Charlie555 everything at brooks brothers (and pretty much every other store) is made in China but they have to compete with Wal-mart who started this whole mess.

Retail was playing those games long before WalMart came on the scene. Apparently it just took twenty years and cheap Chinese imports for people to notice the way retail treated it’s people.
Wal Mart doesn’t deserve the blame for all the HIGH END products made in China, which lead to higher bonuses to CEOs and “managers” instead of the non-exisitent “laborers” in the U.S. that would be the true foundation of the economy, if they had jobs.
In the end, in trade with China, the fun is always one way, you don’t like them, you always lose more than you get, are always disappointed, they always tell you they are the one you need, whoever you are, and people look down on you for doing it.
Yet you always come back, for a whole bunch of reasons.
In the end, trading with China is pretty much like having sex with a man.
China is not the enemy. China, like any good business is simply taking advantage of our weakness. Republicans and Democrats lack the integrity, the courage, and perhaps the knowledge to rebalance the trade with China. For our part we don’t have the courage to face the inevitable price increases that will come with independence from cheap foreign imports. These price hikes will come in advance of the U.S.A. jobs that will then offset the price increases.
All indications are that we will continue down this road to self destruction just as an addict continues to feed their addiction.
The copper wiring in houses turned black, the A/C units corroded, people got sick.
It took years to get anything done, but finally most homes are being fixed.
I have not looked up the cost, but consider:
Renting storage for all of the homeowner’s belongings
Hotel, or other accomodations for homeowner to live
labor to rip out old drywall, wiring, A/C and anything metal
including kitchen appliances
Cost of replacing above
Cost of new drywall, and maybe insulation.
Cost of labor to install everything again
cost of moving back in
Cost of doctor’s bills for people sickened by sulphur, etc.

The fabric wasn’t woven or dyed there? Even if your products are “made in America,” it doesn’t guarantee that the weren’t made in Asian style sweatshops. The sad fact is that products made in US owned territories qualify for as “made in America,” yet are immune from federal labor laws.
I read somewhere that 47 percent of WalMart workers qualify for food stamps. We already know a sizeable percentage qualify for Medicaid. Probably for Sec. 8 housing.
Wal Mart deliberately cost-shifts to U.S. taxpayers because it pays employees at poverty levels.

Take one product; Chinese drywall.
Put in new homes a few years ago.

Look at every store in the USA! All made in China. USA has NO manufacturing base left any more.
