Woman: We just love the way you wrecked the country. Man: And so modest about it, too. Punk: I think I'll wait for the movie. Man: And then not see it.
Beck is using Soros as a theme for a week. Beck has proven again and again his ability to tie together totally unrelated information and say it’s cohesive proof of some bogus idea in his head.
Watch him for a full week, no thanks, that’s not open mindedness that’s simply mind numbing.
The Forward to the book should be written by the Democrats who contributed to the reckless spending and deficits which damaged the economy. Yes, the same Democrats who followed the same failed policies after they got control of Congress and the White House.
^ Yep…just look at that HUGE deficit we had under Clinton.
Oops, that was surplus wun’ it?
Josef and Churchy both know that everything Glenn Beck says is accurate, coz Beck is a man o’ Gawd, an’ Jeezus….
AN’ IS YOU CALLIN’ TH’ LORD A LIAR?!
It’s just another example of screaming right-wing hypocrisy. LONG before George Soros came along the uber-right had their own ‘puppet-masters’ in the persona of Richard Mellon Scaife ( NewsMax, etc. ) and Rupert Murdoch….and that was just great with the Repubs.
And let’s not forget the Tea Party’s very own Jim Henson…the Koch Brothers. Nope, not problem there for the ultra-cons.
But let any Dem do the same thing, and the right-wing outrage factory starts running 24/7.
Let’s give Barney Frank and Chris Dodd most of the credit for the subprime mortgage mess and the Fannie and Fredie meltdown…. Yet the MA morons just re-elected him and the CA hippies just re-elected Boxer and Pelosi. Time to do some more house-cleaning.
Beck really does draw nice boxes. And I just love the way he draws lines between them, proving that you can draw lines between boxes with chalk. Incredibly creative. Chalkboards!! Who would have ever thought of using chalk on board if not for Beck?
billdog, he didn’t name me, either. Shucks. And I can tell you Glenn Beck (whose name I can at least spell correctly) is not only a liar, but he is clearly veering into paranoid schizophrenia. I don’t think he’s just performing anymore; I think he’s off his meds…
And yes, he has been treated for mental health issues in the past. I’m not being sarcastic.
Who is this Joseph you are commenting on? As for waiting for a tell all book, I want the true story of the Cheney shooting his “friend” on the hunting trip and not taking a breatholizer test for ten hours. One day a Secret Service guy will retire and let us know.
I hate it when people -anyone- says about someone else -anyone, even Glenn Beck- “He’s paranoid schizophrenic”, “He’s delusional” or “He needs his meds” just because they don’t agree with their ideas. I spent the last four years of my life with a REAL schizohprenic and if only those people would know just how much real mental diseases are a living Hell not only for the patient himself but for everyone around, they wouldn’t say that unless the person was really sick.
I spent a few years thinking I would be the one with the pad asking questions, but I am glad I chose a different path, even if it was not financially as lucrative.
Frog - I have no desire to make fun of what you went through. And I am dead serious. I read up on Glenn Beck’s history some time ago, and he has written about it himself: when he was a zoo-show DJ, his behavior became increasingly erratic, partially because he was indulging in recreational chemicals, but by his own admission because he needed treatment and was not taking his meds for his mental health issues.
I’m a personality psychologist, not a clinician or a specialist in abnormal psychology, but that’s all the more reason I don’t make statements like that lightly.
There are many kinds of schizophrenia: paranoid schizophrenia is one particular type, and Beck shows disturbing signs of moving into a borderline state.
You have my sympathies; any form of schizophrenia is difficult indeed to deal with.
Motivemagus - Right on all counts. Those incapabile of differentiating between disturbed ranting and free speech are not worthy to be voters. Corporations are excepted even though the Supremes believe they are the people to which our Constiution refers. When they go bad, they are malignant, not disturbed.
And to second motive, Beck has indeed talked about his mental issues. I thought he said he was bipolar, but I could be remembering it incorrectly. When I wrote somewhere I wish him well with his mood disorder, I meant it. And he does have one, it’s visible if you know what you’re looking at.
bcs: it’s not clear, partially because we treat mental illness by guesswork. We give people drugs until one of them works. Eventually we will get better at diagnosing precise neural pathway dysfunctions and tailor the drug to the problem instead of working backwards, but we’re not there yet.
His behavior lately appears to me to be more consistent with paranoia – making links that are only visible to him, and ignoring facts that contradict his elaborate theories (like claiming George Soros, a Jew who survived the Holocaust, is an anti-Semite!). Maybe it’s all a game, but it seems to be too serious to me. The problem with paranoia is that it is very hard to crack: paranoids are typically smart, and can find ways to rationalize around anything.
motive, there’s no doubt in my mind he’s got some kind of a mood disorder going on. I’ve heard him when he seems very reasonable. I’ve heard him when he sounds rather depressed. I’ve heard him when he seems manic and I’ve heard him when he seems out of touch with reality. Lot of mood changes there, and they seem independent of content.

I can see doing it once, more than once if it’s relevant to the cartoon in question….but every poltical cartoon, regardless of the subject?
I don’t think so.
He’s gonna go the way of ANandy, if he’s not careful.
