Wouldn’t that be 1,385 lives? The ones from the books plus Gracie’s own …

Saw a commercial last night about some app for audiobooks that could be used on any device you own and switch seamlessly from one to another when you change gizmos. The punchline was “Listening is the new reading.” Husband nearly had to unstick me from the ceiling plaster. NO, listening is NOT the new reading! There’s this little thing called “literacy”, the greatest and most significant skill mankind possesses. Printed books require a reader’s concentration and attention. They’re not background noise to one’s life. And old books, used books, have survived because they were loved and preserved by who-knows how many generations. They’ll still be readable a hundred years from now — which that audiobook app can’t begin to match. Gracie is absolutely right, and I’m glad she prefers REAL books!

Audio and electronic books have their place, but there is NOTHING like the feel, smell and enjoyment of your favorite bound books. I’ve got a LOT of them.
