You are so right! But, it can be so soul sucking, so ego deflating, so damned hard. But, like you say, the rewards are worth it

I believe it was the great philosopher Ronald Belford Scott who said, “it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ’n roll.”

I started playing drums at age 13. At 65, I still practice my drums an hour a day. I feel I am just beginning to make progress.

Read the biography of the Wright Brothers, by McCollough; talk about facing adversity and ridicule.

“The best dividends on the labor invested have invariably come from seeking more knowledge rather than more power.” – Signed Wilbur and Orville Wright March 12, 1906.

Man, this is exactly it. I’ve just started getting back into art almost 20 years after I pretty much stopped for this very reason. Really wish they’d spent any time when I was in college pointing this out, maybe I wouldn’t have waited so long to find my way back to it. Great comic.

I don’t trust any statement or advice that claims to apply to “everybody”.

I took up woodcarving 4 years ago and was just getting truly frustrated at how far I haven’t advanced. Thank you Mr. Than.

Zen Pencils is the most inspiring comic on the site, by far. Fall down seven times; get up eight.
