Better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.

That’s far older than Mark Twain … he grew in a culture that gave very good advice: “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Book of Proverbs 17:28.

It takes being pretty old to get to that stage of wisdom. As years have gone by, I have learned when to keep my mouth shut.

The problem is to know when you’re about to say something stupid. In my case I assume that’s most of the time so I tend to keep my mouth shut!

To Chris and Gary: thank you for proving wrong those of us who thought that Jeff MacNelly’s ‘slantwise’ view of the world was irreproducible.

Thus the source of much of the “Wisdom of the Aged”, their experience teaches them when to keep their silence.

Note: This does NOT include Politicians!

Or… You seem wise because, while you were analyzing whether it was wise or stupid, you forget what it was you were going to say.

Now, if I can only figure out why I’ve been standing in the garage for the last 5 minutes…

Few people say something stupid intentionally; it’s always brilliant before it passes the lips.

Light travels faster than sound which is why some people appear bright until you hear them say something.

Both, Eldo. More than one of us can have that kind of spouse!!!

Haven’t seen Lew around for a while. SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED must have pulled the plug on his ‘puter! (Probably read some of his posts. Luckily, my better half doesn’t even know how to turn it on or operate a mouse! She can still turn me on, though!)
