Hunter, gun owner, former law enforcement, combat veteran, yes, I have guns and know how to use them responsibly and don’t have a problem with having to have a license to carry concealed. We need stronger laws like the Second Amendment calls for in “well regulated”. Ah, but here we will indeed go with another swell in gun sales. With every mass murder, the NRA and gun manufacturers weep all the way to the bank, outwardly, as the chuckle to themselves.

Black guy or white guy? If black guy: discuss racism. If white guy: discuss gun control.

I’m a citizen of a country with very strong gun control law. Events like the latest US mass shooting just leave me stunned. I get why the second amendment became law. Back then the US hardly existed, didn’t have the organisation or the funds for a large standing army and had to defend against one of the most successfully aggressive nations in the world. Short of a standing army a well regulated and trained militia was probably the only solution to deterring, and repelling aggression.

Fast forward to the 21st century. The US is no longer some poor aggregation of would be independent states. It’s combined services represent the most powerful military force in the world. It’s use of economic power, backed with overwhelming military might have eliminated the situation which caused the second amendment.

Why then, do US citizens still believe they need to be armed? Apparently the current threat is, the state which wrote the amendment into law, it’s officers, our neighbours, and anyone else we don’t like the look of.

It’s true, guns don’t kill people. People with guns kill people. When you remove the guns, the killing becomes much harder, and much more personal, and the death tolls lower.

Time to face up to the facts? No need for a militia, no need to be personally armed? Sadly, no, the gun genie is out of the bottle. If you can’t trust your neighbour or your law enforcers the circle of violence will continue.

Congress passed a law repealing a measure that was originally intended to make it easier to prohibit the sale of firearms to people deemed “mentally defective” by requiring the Social Security Administration to provide disability benefit information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

When people say they need these guns for hunting I’m reminded of a scene in the movie “The Distinguished Gentleman”. Eddie Murphy, as a new Congressman, is out on a hunting trip with other Congressmen and, except for him, they are all shooting at a flight of ducks. They are using all kinds of guns, including machine guns. It sounds like a war zone. As Murphy is standing there with his gun over his arm one lone duck falls to the ground, and he says “Hmm, must have had a heart attack.”

Now I, for one, am not against guns par se, however I am in favor of reasonable gun regulations and they should be nationwide not local or regional, because local or regional gun regulations do absolutely no good. As others have posted, if I want a gun and can’t get it local I can go somewhere else and get it easily. Unfortunately as long as the two terrorist groups (NRA and GOP) remain in power it will never happen.

Well as long as he says he’s not crazy, give him the super special sane stockpiler discount. Even bars keep serving you after you are drunk right?

Funny, but “The Black Helicopters” have been coming to take everyone’s guns away since about 1970 or so…STILL haven’t seen any, have you?? And yes, I first heard that nonsense when Nixon was president! He was going to send them out to take care of all the Anti-War protestors!

The idea that owning numerous firearms will protect someone against a government with tanks, missiles, jet fighters, chemical/bio-weapons, and NUKES is patently absurd.
