DON’T mess with the IRS. Governments everywhere have no sense of humor about taxes. The IRS can seize property, wages, and generally make your life miserable with absolutely no malice. It’s the job.
Pay your taxes, appeal if you like. I have had their arbitrary decisions reversed on appeal. The only solid rule: THEY get to hold onto your money during the appeal.

The IRS are just the henchmen if you like – Congress is where you would have to start. Good luck with that.
