I first ran away from home when I was five years old. Fortunately, it didn’t take them long to find me on a bridge headed for the military base to see the “parade”. I had imagined a military parade to be like Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. I didn’t “run away” again until I was 17 and joined the military. Fortunately, I stayed in just enough to get strong and get “woke” regarding the kind of life I didn’t want to lead.
When I was about 6, my parents ‘helped’ me run away. I remember carrying a small grocery sack, paper in those days. I think I made it 3 houses away before turning around and begging to come back. I was 24 the next time; they helped me then, too; probably glad to get rid of me by that time.
