How mean of you Wiz? Now if a real dead tree should just happen to fall over on you,I’d call that a wee bit o’ poetic justice.

Plants die? Do Parker & Hart know no better? It’s a molt & hibernate world, not a death watch.

I have long been amused by Earth Day. When I was in Phoenix that was right around the peak of ER activity for asthma brought on by mulberry and olive allergies. The silk oak tree in our yard was the one that clobbered me, but my son had the asthma.

My allergies used to go from pussy willows (February) to the last of the conifers (June) but the last 10 or so years it’s started up again in late July with the grasses and ragweed and hangs on until after a couple of killing frosts (which used to be mid September, but now with global climate change isn’t until mid to late October). Oh and then there’s December when people bring trees indoors. Spring, sneezing and all, is still my favorite season, but winter has its moments, too.

Whoever is writing this strip now seems to have a very dark sense of humor bordering on macabre. This one isn’t so bad but there have been a couple lately that have made me go “Really?”

However, they (at least the trees and perennial herbaceous plants) are not dying, just going into a state of torpor.
