My son once had a very poor grade in math, a the age of 13 or so. We had an Intense discussion, with him improving it to an A the next grading period. He proudly showed it to me, I immediately praised him for the improvement, then I explained he probably had messed up. He thought for a minute then said: “But Dad, I made an A!” I then told him that he had proved that he could do the work, and I now expected him to at least make passing grades. He never again failed a class. He still remembers that conversation to this day.

Too bad he dislikes education so much. Like a typical American child. At least at that age I had other interests that kept me busy.
