there’s nothing noble about some soldier whose ONLY noteworthy grand effort in life was to defend an IMMORAL institution. name me something that Robert E Lee did that would warrant such patriotic honor worthy of the American public.
@Darth_geekboy, if you are referring to slavery, you (and our general society at the moment) are playing in the shallow end of the swimming pool. The civil war had more to do with state’s rights and General Lee’s loyalty was for his state. That the evil institution of slavery came with the southern states was secondary. It was a great moment in our history when slavery was finally abolished.It was a horrible moment in our history when the Federal government became primary over the individual state’s governments. Please read the 10th amendment that has been so badly trampled it no longer exists in realty.
Not sure about the “Good Guys”, but the “Bad Guys” sign should be pointing in both directions… and it doesn’t even matter which battle or war it’s referring to.
If they fought (& in doing so ensured the death of thousands) to secceed from the country then let them have their way, finally. Keep them out of our parks! They can make themselves useful in history books, where they belong.
Most people want to make it a “slavery” thing when in reality it was a tax thing. Lincoln didn’t want the South to quit paying taxes on their goods. It was all about MONEY……..
Wonder what would have happened if the South had not gone to war. How would the Federal government have changed the constitution and compensated slave owners for their financial loss?
