There are times when it is nice to be the anchor-cat and not a field reporter. Of course, being deaf, Lupin would be an ideal field reporter for this story . . . Ah well, each has his lot in life.
Do people still believe that old superstition that “a cat will steal a baby’s breath”? I remember a friend of my dad’s telling this looong detailed story about how he was an “eyewitness” to it. Yeah, right.
A cat will lay down on a baby’s chest for the warmth. The weight will eventually fatigue the baby’s respiratory muscles to such an extent that the baby will no longer be able to breath—-and dies. The cat jumps down when someone comes in the room and then you have an “unexplained crib death”.
Georgia did a strip on this previously when a nasty woman comes by and tries to spread this rumor. Like ROG22’s trolling — I’m sure that’s been documented many times.
My mother use to tell me the story of Tiger. Tiger used to sit in my crib when I was a baby. She would swish her tail in front of me and I would reach out and try to grab it. And when I did, she would gently take her tail back and would start the “game” all over again. When I tired of the game and laid down to sleep, she would curl up next to me and go to sleep herself, her work done tiring me out to take a nap.
I notice that in the panels with Puck, the background is filled with the baby’s crying, but in the panels with Lupin, the background is empty. Clever way to indicate that Lupin doesn’t hear it!

Poor Puck is so worried about the baby as well as frazzled by the noise. Lupin is calm, cool and collected since he’s deaf.

I keep forgetting that Lupin is deaf…so that’s the reason why he’s so nonplussed about these things! Bet he’s not afraid of the vacuum either…
