Well, the problem with more treatment centers is that there is poor after care, difficulty finding staff to cover them, and the addict has to want to get clean first. Forced treatment does not work very well.
In the last panel, they blame the doctors. I work in medicine. For 20 years physicians, PAs, and NPs were pushed HARD on treatment of pain. HARD. And then the Joint Commission kept pushing “pain is a vital sign” and when the Press Ganey/patient satisfaction scores came out they tied treatment of pain to reimbursement from Medicaid and Medicare got lumped into it.
This was a crisis that was made by a collusion of factors.
The some Drug War is an evil. Like Prohibition before it it fails and hurts more than helps only this time it has never ended. And as long as there are those who think there is an intrinsic wrong to it more will suffer and for what? A good way to addict our law enforcement and military in a way to gain power and lots of money.
George Carlin had the right idea. Take 4 empty states that share borders, put all the druggies, sex perverts, killers and loonies in them, drop in all the confiscated weapons and drugs, set up pay-per-view cameras, and let the fun begin! Especially where there are gates just wide enough for one person to get through, and they are only open for one minute one time a month! Now THAT’S entertainment!

Decriminalize it and bring it out into the open, that would reduce deaths.

More white people need to be put in jail to balance out the demographic. Releasing criminals onto the streets is not the answer.

I wish the republicans were this compassionate. They certainly don’t want to build treatment centers.

The compassionate republicans are all for building for profit incarceration… oohps treatment centers to provide a lifetime of “treatment” to addicts.
