By the looks of Snoopy’s heavenly grin, is it the owner of the vicious neighbor cat?

I won’t ask how a beagle from a puppy mill got into real estate, but Snoopy better watch out or eminent domain might wipe that smug smirk off his face.

    From today’s Toronto Star:

Over the past 19 years, the Canadian government has spent more than $150 million maintaining Pickering land it seized in the 70’s — for an airport that’s never been built.

Oh, oh, I get the confusion in the comments. This was 1970, a lot of people still thought poor landowners had basic rights to their own property back then.

@Dean and @Adiraiju – Yep that is a difference between Canada and the US. The government owns everything under your house. But there is hope, I think it was years ago the CBC did some afternoon law programs. The jist of owning land under your house was, you need to apply and become a certified geologist, take core samples, analyse them and then apply to the government for mineral rites.

The Norwegian translation mixed this in with the long running debate about the new main airport in Oslo. At this time, in the 1970s, the projected site was in Hobøl, to the southeast of Oslo, so that was where they made it out that Snoopy’s land was. Eventually the airport Gardermoen was opened to the northeast of Oslo in 1998.
