Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister on Saturday said his country’s alliance with the Trump administration would help “drain the swamp” of extremism.
The expression is a familiar one in the U.S. due to President Trump’s common use of it in reference to the Washington political establishment. Trump uses it as a call to reform.
Saudi Arabia’s Adel al-Jubeir called for an end to “enmity” between the West and the Islamic World, saying that by doing so “we will have drained the swamp” of incubating terrorism.
“If we can change the conversation in the Islamic world from enmity towards the U.S. to partnership with the U.S. and if we can change the conversation in the U.S. and in the West from enmity towards the Islamic world to one of partnership…we will have drained the swamp from which extremism and terrorism emanates,” Adel al-Jubeir said at a joint news conference with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Riyadh.
Al-Jubeir’s comments came after Trump signed a roughly $110 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia during his first trip abroad as president. The visit to Riyadh is the first stop in a nine-day trip across five countries, and is aimed at reaffirming the U.S.-Saudi alliance after a more rocky relationship under the Obama administration.
Tillerson said at the news conference that the arms sale would ultimately lessen the United States’ burden of fighting militant groups in the Middle East, while allowing Saudi Arabia to bolster and modernize its military capabilities.
“This huge arm sales package reduces the burden on the United States to provide the same equipment to our own military forces,” Tillerson said. “It lowers demand on our own military, but it also lowers the cost to our own people.”

Trump declared in a March 2016 interview with CNN that, “I think Islam hates us” adding that, “there’s a tremendous hatred there.”
“Frankly, look, we’re having problems with the Muslims, and we’re having problems with Muslims coming into the country,” he told Fox Business Network last March
In a June 2016 posting on Facebook, Trump said, “Saudi Arabia and many of the countries that gave vast amounts of money to the Clinton Foundation want women as slaves and to kill gays. Hillary must return all money from such countries!” During an October general election debate in Las Vegas, Trump went further: “It’s a criminal enterprise,” he said of the Clinton’s charitable foundation. “Saudi Arabia giving $25 million, Qatar, all of these countries. You talk about women and women’s rights? So these are people that push gays off business — off buildings. These are people that kill women and treat women horribly. And yet you take their money….” ’’on’t you give back the money you’ve taken from certain countries that treat certain groups of people so terrible?"NOW: The World Bank announced Sunday at an event with Trump’s daughter and White House adviser, Ivanka Trump, that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had pledged $100 million for the bank’s proposed Women Entrepreneurs Fund, which was first proposed by Ivanka Trump.
Look at Charity Navigator, Charity Watch, FactCheck, Snopes, or other reputable source. “A” ratings. 94% scores. 89% of funds go to the people who need help.
And from the other side, all we get are bilious fictions. The charity watchdogs give warnings and mediocre numbers.
And there’s this: ‘Without access to Mr. Trump’s tax forms it is difficult to know the scale of his charitable activities outside the Trump Foundation. But it does appear that the dollars have not matched the pledges. An investigation by the Washington Post has not been able to validate that Trump has actually donated the money he pledged, instead finding, “Trump promised millions to charity. We found less than $10,000 over 7 years.” In addition, the last donation to the Trump Foundation by any of its trustees—family or otherwise—was in 2008.’
US News & World Report calls Trump’s foundation “sketchy.” The American Conservative called it “Trump’s Scam Charity” in September.
Yes, it’s just so hard to know which one is better. The differences are so clear, so stark. How to decide between these two obviously different organizations? How?
Nice to see Trump has become politically correct and is no longer referring to the terrorists as “Islamists.” It’s always very important to be politically correct and Conservatives have always said that.

It was a lovely bow and a curtsey. Perfectly appropriate and diplomatic. Obama’s bow was nowhere near that elegant.

Trump failed to say the republicon magic words “radical Islamic terrorism” during his speech in Saudi Arabia.

give them all a cavity search then send them back where they came from. We don’t want that kind of garbage in our country.
