Is there anything the brothers of Dill haven’t launched in their trebuchet? (I’m unfamiliar with Raymond Scott. Scott Joplin yes, but not Raymond Scott.)

How nice of Grandma! Can’t say the same for Dill’s infamous brothers.

I suppose cats and mice would compose better music on/in the piano than Big Shirley would. I’m beginning to suspect, though, that Petey has a tendency to make up things to tell his little sister….

raymond scott (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Scott) is a particularly funny and apt choice because he was a composer whose music was oft adapted and employed by carl stalling in the scores of warner brothers looney tunes cartoons, just the sort alice is referencing with her “cats and mice” comment.

I like the non-responsive conversation between these two. My husband and I have had conversations Ike that!

Cats and mice in a piano? Think Tom & Jerry where Tom plays music on the piano and Jerry is part of it. A regular cat and mouse game.

Reminds me of the Northern Exposure episode where Chris uses a trebuchet to fling a piano. He wanted to fling a cow, but it had already been done before…

The mention of Liszt clinches it – the “cats and mice” song Alice is thinking of has to be Hungarian Rhapsody.

The Liszt piece would be the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, originally written for solo piano but popularized in an orchestral arrangement that was much-quoted in cartoons.
