I miss 1999. I was 11 years old, didn’t have a care in the world, and was messing around with my SNES

So many futuristic science fiction references from my youth are now in the past. In remember when “1984” was the future. Then there was Space:1999, 2001: A Space Odyssey, etc.

Uh, Rat? Might want to check your math in Panel 3. 1999 was 18 years ago, not 17.

The sad part is I remember thinking the 1970’s sounded futuristic.

Gee… and I remember when 1984 was a scary future date.

Small fun fact: 1999 was the year when Stephan first submitted Pearls Before Swine to some syndicates, and United Media liked it and signed him in. Another fun fact: I was born on that year. So yeah, party like it’s 1999!
