1930 starts out with Annie living with an Irish cop and his wife, whom Annie calls “Uncle Paddy and Aunt Aggie.” Mrs. Meanie, the mistress of the orphanage that Annie has escaped from is close to catching her and hires a lawyer to get Annie away from Paddy and Aggie. Annie runs away to escape Mrs. Meanie, and while she’s walking downtown, she rescues a cur dog who was struck by a car. The dog belongs to a blind beggar named Albert Albert. Annie stays with Mr. Albert to help him and try to nurse the dog back to health. Story and art by Ben Batsford.
COSTUMED CRIMEFIGHTERS ACADEMY – Online for the duration of the emergencySurveillance and Discovery At first glance, one would think, Don’t slouch, kid… but slouching might actually help her. A recurring theme with our Class of ‘21 alumni is her habit of “stumbling” into trouble, causing her to be kidnapped, threatened, etc. This is actually a proven technique of hers that has enabled her to outwit and be the downfall of many a villain over her long career. We suspect that the pair of villains in the first two panels will discover her, drag her off to some remote location, which will bring “Daddy” and his resources into the picture for her rescue and the apprehension of the villains. Mind you, we don’t recommend that our students repeatedly place themselves in harm’s way, but it seems to work for the kid… and we just keep our mouths shut.
