Rick Perry preps for his confirmation hearing. Rick Perry tries on different pairs of glasses. Perry: Just not sure which pair makes me look most like a physicist.
Rarely have I seen such a dramatic and negative contrast, with a predecessor, so clearly done for openly corrupt and cynical reasons. With the possible exception of the Congressional GOP trying to eliminate Ethics oversight.Trump’s approach to appointments is right out of the “spoils system” playbook from the 1800s. Credentials? Ability? Who needs those? I voted for the right guy!
the worst secretary you could select is one who wants to dismantle the department he is going to be running. Are we as a country do not want anyone concerned with our energy grid or our handling of nuclear materials? This does not seem to be a very wise choice, I thought Trump was going to surround himself with the best, not just fill up this swamp with more Washington insiders.
So yeah, just about every appointment is for someone who hates the department they are to head, Sec. of Education is against public education, head of the EPA is against environmental laws, etc, etc. but my favorite appointment, vis a vis, Trump supporters thinking he is going to help working folks, is the appointment of Andrew Puzder as Sec. of Labor. Well, if you want the lifestyle of a Carl’s Jr. employee, there’s your man.
The Department of Energy is a huge bureaucracy. It does not require a scientist of any sort as its head. It requires someone who is able to manage a gigantic multi-purpose, multi-disciplinary organization. Whether a governor who managed a huge bureaucracy like the executive branch of the government of the State of Texas is the right person to do that is an open question. Spencer Abraham was a very effective administrator of DOE and was a former U.S. senator with a Harvard law degree. He was not a scientist.
Perry liked being governor and executing people, just like “W”, it made him feel bold and brave. He can’t manage a one room hotel with no bellhop, let alone a state or an agency. The closest he comes to “physics” is a physic, as in Milk of Magnesia, to loose his brain upon us…
Night Gaunt49. the drone is the modern update on the sniper. Which, snipers use spotters to make sure they have on the ground confirmation of the target identity. One thing Obama has done is to have people on the ground in most cases to confirm targets, but yes, as I know from experience, you know what happens. Drones are far less damaging than shock and awe, or massive carpet bombing that the Bushies love so much. Sorry, but I do think it’s better to take out a few bad guys, even with the sadness of “collateral damage”, than killing hundreds, or thousands, because you don’t care at all about who you kill.

It’s not what you look like on the outside, it’s what issues forth from the inside.

You’re missing the truly important thing here- he’s also stopped wearing cowboy boots. I think that more than qualifies him for the job.

Wonder if he’ll answer ‘oops. Help me out here’’ when asked which agency he’s been nominated for?

judging from the fragility of the power grid, perhaps physicists were not really effective administrators.

Trump’s Cabinet nominations remind me of the old adage that it’s impossible to satirize a parody…….
