Lefties vs. Liberals Lefties: I believe in income equality. Liberals: I believe in fairness. Lefties: The system relies on inequality. Thus, it must be destroyed. Liberals: Too scary, keep the system improve it. Lefties: What expect distribution of income would be "fair"? Liberals: More equal than now but not actually equal. Lefties: "Workers of the world, you have nothing to lose but an undetermined percent of your chains!" Liberals: We're working on the tag line.

I guess this make me a left leaning liberal. Seems like there is a case for folks earning some extra net income and accumulating assets, even luxuries. That said, having people starving, freezing, dying from pollution, denied the opportunity to get an education, etc., etc. is a case for systematic progressive taxation and then the ultimate in deferred taxation, the estate tax.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. If Ted had been listening in class instead of doodling, he’d actually understand Marxism. Well, wait: Looking at his art, maybe he was doodling AND listening.

Hey, the Libs got dumped fair and square. If they wanted to win, then they should have nominated a candidate that was CAPABLE of winning. But no, they just HAD to try to push that lying criminal into office. Wonder how they like the results? I’d say – not much!

Just about no one on the left calls for income equality. Certainly Marx did not call for income equality. Rall needs to do some homework.

Alas, the vast majority of Americans are stupid greedy people easily manipulated by the plutocrats in charge.

Ted, I think you should use the term “neoliberal”. “Liberal” is now no more than a veneer on a philosophy that is ultra-capitalist and considers war an integral part of success in business. Would an actual liberal promote the TPP, war in the Mideast, fracking, and Wall Street hegemony?

a “Leftie” is just a derogatory term for a “Leftist” so people don’t self identify as "lefities like they don’t self identify with “republicon”. Left-wing politics supports social equality not just income equality, which is fairness. Liberals believe in equality and individual liberty. The Leftist “radical, reforming, or socialist section of a political party or system” is all done through the system, it is not the “lefty” democrats who want to destroy the system, they voted for the system, they just want it more socialized. Liberals are also interested in the system to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority, as well as Constitutional checks for the rights of everyone. Many left-wingers and liberals believe the theorises that social equality is possible by a redistribution of resources. Liberals also believe in an equal distribution of resources with the policies of state working for the maximum profit for everyone. “Leftists […] claim that human development flourishes when individuals engage in cooperative, mutually respectful relations that can thrive only when excessive differences in status, power, and wealth are eliminated.” – Clark Liberal themes are ascendant in terms of “cultural pluralism, religious and ethnic toleration, national self-determination, free-market economics, representative and responsible government, free trade, unionism, and the peaceful settlement of international disputes through a new body, the League of Nations”. -Blinkhorn

And, of course, this toon is a great oversimplification of the global situation with respect to work opportunities. When fewer workers are needed for a given level of production, these opportunities are lessened. Look at the case of the steel industry in the US for a stunning example. Also, more importantly, there is the loss of dignity and the loss of a sense of being needed that is independent of income that is being lost as employment opportunities shrink. I posted links to two op-eds on this topic over on the current Rob Rogers toon, if anyone is interested.
