    Memory - the 2nd thing to go. I can’t remember the first.

    I really pity Val and Joan because their children will never grow up, ever! Val will be stuck with an opinionated teenager and a wild tomboy for the rest or her existence while Joan will never get out of the diaper changing and temper tantrum throwing phase. Perhaps for them it’s a blessing in disguise that their memory is so poor.

    My motto is…If it didn’t get to the long term memory while I slept than it was not meant to remember. Less Stress on Me!

    I’m getting better in general, but less sleep always makes my memory worse. Thank goodness I’m past the baby stage.

    How long has SS been in production before GC? Has SS always been with same family age wise? When did Phil enter into picture?

    Who/what is GC?

    Stone Soup characters have not always been the same age, altho they do age relatively slowly. When we met them:

    Joan and Wally knew each other but marriage never crossed their minds - they were just friends;

    Phil had not come into the picture yet, nor Andy, if I remember correctly (no snide comments about my memory please - where do you think this comment is coming from?);

    When Joan and Wally had been married for a while, Joan got pregnant. She stayed that way for an agonizingly long time, as Jan Eliot explored all aspects of this. The same when Joan gave birth to Luci;

    Holly and Alix were younger. I think they were in another school - isn’t Holly in high school now?

    Sorry, I can’t remember anything else. I’m not even sure why I think I know this much - I don’t remember following the strip from the beginning!

    Phil entered the picture a few years ago when Val was driving somewhere and he gave her a (speeding?) ticket. This happened two or three times, then he said “We’ve got to stop meeting like this!” and asked her out.

    I think GC is GoComics.com. I was new to SS so I last month I went back and read all GC had in it’s archives. It seems to be 2 or 3 years our time for 1 SS year. I think Holly is in her last year of middle school and Alix in still in elementary school. Andy came at least 2 years ago and is still 15. Also just a heads up Kab Butch, Holly’s basketball coach Susan dated both Wally and Phil for a short time and she is their vet. And FYI Grandma won some money in the lottery and so she can afford to go around the world with habitat for humanity, and her boyfriend was a only 2 or 3 years ahead of Phil in high school. But Grand’s not that old because in an early strip she mentioned only being 19 years older than Val.

    I’m sure Holly is in 8th grade, she is so much like the 13-year-olds I used to teach (not to mention my older daughter…somehow the younger one escaped that stage).

    As I recall, and I suffer from AARP moments too:

    Joan was married to, or in a relationship with, some guy who upped and left. That is, Max is not Wally’s son.

    Andy is Wally’s nephew, and came to live with Joan and Wally when his parents were going through a nasty divorce.

    Val is a widow.

    Larry no I didn’t know that about Lois. Thanks all for the information on SS. I started following this fun strip 3 years ago and so reminds me of real life so much. There are times SS is so funny and real life and some times they deal in sad times.

    Thanks, everyone. I’ve read this for a long while but also have a senior memory (besides the fact that I love many really good ‘toons) so I loose track of storylines/characters.

    ‘Remembering feeling like you had no brain cells’ sounds like ‘listening for one hand clapping!’ Val is on her way to being a Taoist!
