The pollsters were right when they said Hillary was ahead by 1 or 2 points because she won the popular votes with over 400,000 which would put her 1 or 2 points ahead of Trump. She lost to the electoral college.
Trump was prolife right up until the time he decided to run on the Republican ticket. He is on tape saying “if I ever run for President it will be on the Republican ticket because they have really dumb voters”. Point being that we don’t actually have any idea what he will do.
The polls are becoming wrong more and more often. You remember the results of the first presidential poll which correctly predicted our beloved President Dewey would win. Political polls are self-fulfilling prophecies. Everyone likes to back a winner. Polls that show John Doe will win and Marty Soe will lose will cause people that back Marty to stay home, those that back John Doe will go out and vote and vote in greater #s than Marty’s supporters. In essence, polls don’t reflect the “will of the people”. Polls tell people how to vote. That’s the reason there was never a President Dewey. People hadn’t yet ben exposed to polls, and voted accordingly. Of late, people are “waking up” and telling pollsters what they want to hear and not what they intend to do. At least that’s my wacky theory.

It wasn’t the pollsters, but the pundits, who were so sure. Many results were in the margin of error of the pollsters.
