Continuing the thread from yesterday: rather than term limits, I’d prefer constraints on campaigns like fixed money or equivalents - and I would insist on debates and meetings to avoid this kind of “bubble boy” isolation. The responsibility of a politician is to represent the people, not preserve themselves at all costs and hide their opinions from their constituents behind a marketing campaign.

Exactly my point, harley, except for your smearing the left. When Hillary Clinton was running, the attitude was “if she can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen!” And she did take the heat, and she had a lot of it from the so-called “liberal media,” which treated her like crap. But when it’s Sarah Palin blowing an interview or this nitwit hiding her past, you’re thrilled by her snubbing the press. Why? If she can’t take the heat, let her get out of the campaign. You people don’t seem to understand that the press, however biased it may be left OR right, is one of the few defenses we have against an orchestrated political campaign, spin doctors, and political parties with lots of money. If they can’t even manage a boring Sunday morning show, how are they going to handle Congress?

And while everyone is distracted by the latest half-wit TP candidate, the real battle is being played out in state elections. Whichever party wins control of certain state legislatures will get to gerrymander the congressional districts in those states…

Yes to term limits. I’d like campaigns to be self funded to the point that all a donor can contribute is time. But who would want to run when all the perks are taken away?

“Just like Obama and the health care bill”

Yes, the idea I had from the primaries is that he favored a rather stronger bill. Not as strong as Hillary or Edwards, who iirc pretty much said they wanted a public option, but still more than the US eventually ended with, a.k.a. “Ok, here are a few band-aids, the actual thing is delayed until 2014”.

Let’s reserve judgment on this until further investigation. Leave “guilty until proven innocent” on the Right side of politics. The case certainly isn’t looking good. It’ll probably be verified shortly.

‘What is it that Sarah Palin has done that is so horrible?’

She’s dumb as a post and she was nearly president (McCain would never have survived the strain of office).

She quit her duly elected office of Gov of AK because she knew ethics investigators were going to com down on her like a ton of bricks. She started SarahPAC to pay her ENORMOUS legal bills stemming from the ethics investigations so she could use money collected from the public to pay her bills *then lie about it;s use). What happened to personal responsibility and jailtime for criminals?

What little time she did spend in office was used to get back at any perceived enemies. Instead of governing, she used he power to make specific people’s lives difficult. She is incredibly mean and selfish.

In the muddiest state in the union, her car wash went under. While she was gov, she was receiving govt reprimands for on her own stationary because her business license was not in order. She may have been having an affair with her husband’s business partner.

Motive magus is right on–Also We need not to have term limits which only benefit the lobbists but instead to have limited campaigns A congressperson no sooner is elected before they have to start raising money for the next election- in this case the UK has it right

Jack75287, When Palin was announced as VP candidate, I downloaded all the financial reports for Palin’s years as the Mayor of Wasilla. She ran up the debt astronomically, locking her small community into paying heavy interest charges going forward. She also added a new job to the city payroll: city manager to do the management work, the work that previous mayors had done.

The record shows she is the type of leader who gets rid of anyone with a contrary view, giving the jobs to friends, whether they are qualified or not. This type of leadership demonstrates a low emotional IQ, and immature moral development. Decisions are not made based on good information, they’re based on power over or power under, and on the personal loyalty of the proponents of any idea.

^^ She’s not entirely selfish. Other than that “bridge to nowhere,” [showing how she feels about “fiscal responsibility” and wasteful government spending] she did tax windfall oil profits and give them to her constituents [showing how she feels about “socialism” and “smaller government”]. She took the oil companies’ hard earned money and gave it to people who didn’t deserve it [read: citizens].

    You betcha.

    Sorry…I couldn’t resist:

Sir Bedevere: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch. Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us. Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with witches? Peasant 1: Burn them. Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from witches? Peasant 1: More witches. Peasant 2: Wood. Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do witches burn? Peasant 3: …because they’re made of… wood? Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood? Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her. Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone? Peasant 1: Oh yeah. Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water? Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!… It floats! Throw her into the pond! Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water? Peasant 1: Bread. Peasant 2: Apples. Peasant 3: Very small rocks. Peasant 1: Cider. Peasant 2: Gravy. Peasant 3: Cherries. Peasant 1: Mud. Peasant 2: Churches. Peasant 3: Lead! Lead! King Arthur: A Duck. Sir Bedevere: …Exactly. So, logically… Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck… she’s made of wood. Sir Bedevere: And therefore… Peasant 2: …A witch!

“They were doing that in Alaska before she was governor.”

“When oil and gas prices went up so dramatically and the state revenues followed with that increase, I sent a large share of that revenue directly back to the people of Alaska,” Palin said of her accomplishments as governor.

We looked into the record and found that Palin did push for a measure to return state surplus revenue back to residents of mineral-rich Alaska. On Aug. 7, 2008, the Alaska Legislature approved a measure she promoted that would send $1,200 to every Alaskan who qualifies. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/aug/29/sarah-palin/each-alaskan-got-1200/

First we have John McCain version 3.84850249.1 saying that the rich can afford to pay more taxes than everyone else and then we have Robin Hood Palin “stealing” money to give to the common folk. What a bunch of “big” government “socialists.”

motive, your comments about the press are amusing…Obama just coasted to his presidential victory under the banner of “Yes we can.” “Hope and change.” The press absolutely tossed him softballs, to the point where they are continually LYING for him every day. To this point, Obama has never released his original birth certificate to the public for viewing, and the press continues along with the story that he has!

I agree with you about politicians needing to get out of the bubble and answer some tough questions, but it is so clear that the press really doesn’t want to upset the Left that your idealism about the function of the press seems like a relic of bygone years. The press serves as propoganda machine for Obama, and has only been reporting the negative in the last couple of months when it has become obvious that he is strongly disliked.

This is blatantly false. He has even given interviews during and after election to Fox News. Republican candidates do not go on “enemy” networks.

HB, since the emergence of Fox, you can no longer claim that all of the press is giving the left a pass. If there was even semi-legitimate dirt on Obama, Fox will obviously air it.

It really annoys me that loony toon posters continue to say that Obama’s birth certificate hasn’t been released. It was released and confirmed by credible authenticators. The problem is that every birth certificate released is greeted by the crazies as a fake. Hawaii has received so many requests for his certificate that the state Governor asked the state bureau to stop fielding them b/c they’ve had so many requests that it costs them too much money to respond. The current REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR, Linda Lingle, has also seen the birth certificate and and has confirmed its legitimacy. Your kinda crazy will never accept the facts. He’s an American citizen. Get over it.

Ecostar, yes, people in Hawaii made statements that they had seen the birth certificate. There is no way to verify that what they are saying is true. The story is so inconsistent as to be laughable if you have followed it at all. Linda Lingle made numerous false statements in reference to the certificate. And none of this was done in any sort of official capacity, just press releases!

And, no, it was a certificate of live birth that Obama released, not a birth certificate. I have no problem getting over the idea of Obama as an American citizen. If it’s true, it’s true, that’s fine. However, everything surrounding the story is just smoke and bluster, including the Left’s continued portrayal of the issue as one that has been conclusively resolved. Obama said, “I can’t walk around with my birth certificate on my forehead.” Hey, bud, just relaease it for once, you don’t have to walk around with it on your forehead….he’s obviously got something to hide.

I agree; Obama IS centrist, though a dozen examples of moderate postions he has taken won’t convince some that he isn’t a radical socialist.

And I have found most journalists to be professional, reporting the news unbiased, to the best of their abilities. I wasn’t going to try to convince HB of that, though. The idea of a “liberal media” is gospel truth to many of the cons.

And yes, Ecostar, mention of the bc is a sign they’re probably too far gone to reason with. Don’t they realize that if there was any truth to this McCain or someone from the GOP would’ve had this in court a long time ago?
