U.S. History book: Mugwumps-republicans who rejected their party's candidate to vote for democrat Grover Cleveland in the 1884 election. Elephant: Guess that makes us mugwumps... But this year we're spelling it with an "H." Sign: Mugwhumps for Clinton 2016

Yeah, these don’t exist. Compassionate Republican is a contradiction of terms.

@Darsan54 – Let’s be fair. None of my friends who are Republicans are voting for Clinton. None of them are voting for Trump either. That is most likely good enough.

I wouldn’t try to make a case for Trump over Clinton by pointing out who gives the most to charity, or how they think of women. Facts have a well-known liberal bias.

“A Mugwump sits on a fence with his mug on one side and his wump on the other.”I don’t know about voters, but conservative newspapers are deserting the R column this year in protest of Trump’s playing fast and loose with the facts and other people’s money. It’s notable, since his policies aren’t that far out of line with the party, and his VP choice (who he says will take care of the silly National and International stuff while Trump sits around and makes America great) is even farther to the right.

I seem to remember that was his dad and he took some heat for implying St. Ronnie wasn’t compassionate. If it was GWB, then it was before he invaded a country that didn’t attack us and let an American city drown.

There will be millions of GOP deserters next month, some will go to Hil, some over to Johnson.

Sure, Shock and Awe was both “compassionate conservatism” and a “humble foreign policy” (remember that?)In any case how much of that conservative “charity” goes to things that benefit only them? Theater, symphony, ballet…

This cartoon is a total fraud.
No Republican reads a history book any more than they would read a science book.

KaffekupGranted, it is not the same as being there in person, and the fi is not high enough, but thanks to the Internet, anyone with the connection (including public library) can enjoy the “theater, symphony, ballet…” I certainly do regularly.

What do you call people who are supposed to be deported if Trump wins the office, but still votes for a republican – as such keeping them in power?

Mugwump: a person who remains aloof or independent, especially from party politics. The republican mugwumps switched parties because they rejected the financial corruption associated with Republican candidate James G. Blaine. Blaine had corruptly influenced legislation in favor of railroads, later profiting on the sale of bonds he owned in both companies. Imagine a Republican today leaving the party because a candidate influenced legislation then profited from it.
