We can only hope. If the GOP wins in November there will be no recovery. They will sit on any bill that might help until doomsday.

C.A., the GOP has done a very good job of sitting on everything these past 18 months. They threaten to filibuster everything. We no longer need a majority in Congress to get anything done - we now always need a super majority.

Solution: Change the filibuster rules, and do it now! Get rid of it, even.

If the regressives win, it will be doomsday.

I’d like ‘em to at least go back to the old filibuster rules - you want to filibuster, you and your buds stand at the podium yapping 24x7. Pulling a filibuster with the drop of a postcard is just too easy.

That said, the 2 big problems we’ve got are Republican hyper- partisanship and, as usual, and Democrat muddle.

^Good idea, meet. If in fact the Tea Partiers enter Congress – and I’m not convinced many will – we may see the same phenomenon in office we see in the campaigns: splitting the GOP between their right and far-right wings. There are no moderates any more - they cleansed them out.

These days the mere threat of a filibuster *is* the filibuster. The true test is to call their bluff.

I do hope the GOP gets burned for playing with fire, but I’m not sure it will happen.

Fill the bills with pork and wonder why it does not get support.Boy them liberals are smart.

The GOP is doing to the filibuster now what they did to the independent counsel law during the Clinton administration: abuse the power to the breaking point so the Democrats will agree to revoke that power.

And we see how well not having independent investigators worked during the Bush years…

I say lets get rid of the filibuster in January after the Republicans take over. Come on, all you liberals, be consistent. I don’t want to hear any of you change your tune next year.

Dems love the mega-rich, let’s not kid ourselves. It’s merely that history proves that it’s not just the mega-rich that benefit under the policies of Democrats.

Rest assured, while getting rid of the filibuster may seem like a good idea now, if it’s removed and Tea partiers win, this country will get on the fast-track to installing its first Ayatollah soon enough.

I don’t mind the fillibuster, but it has to be reformed so that the party trying to fillibuster has to actually show up to enforce it. Still block things that really matter, but not 450 bills, many of which are simple housekeeping and funding bills.

It’s obscene that when the Republicans want to block a bill they can go home, while the Dems have to pull senators out of a hospital bed just to make their majority count.

I guess you didn’t see the Stimulus and Healthcare Reform Bills as well as his stance in Iraq and Afghanistan, his delay on DADT repeal and snails pace on the removal of DOMA.

Let’s get rid of the “secret hold” rule to see how that works out.
