Neither of those concepts work in college or university. Unless it is science it could work in both ways.

    QuiteDragon…

I know. That sentence is so badly written,

there have actually been some commenters who thought they’d have to leave, because they didn’t know how to do bold or italics.

I’ve also seen quite a few comments all in bold….and I finally realised those were from people who also think it means

you have to use bold or italics now to post.

    Honestly, folks…no.

    You don’t.

You can. You don’t have to.

Is Caulfield implying that somebody else can do better than him?

Then again, most people like Jimi Hendrix’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” better than Bob Dylan’s original version (and Dylan wrote the song to begin with).

Looks like what Caulfield actually is asking is, did Rufus get a better grade or write a more inventive quiz. If so, Caulfield wants some of the credit.

This comic is a reference to Rufus Wainwright’s cover of Hallelujah which is unquestionably the very best one.

I’ve heard Bob Dylan’s voice compared to “a small mammal trapped in a heating duct”. The best songwriters usually do the worst versions of their own songs and have the worst voices.

Definitely gotta go with Wainwright on this one. Thank you Shrek. “Love is not a victory march…”

I realize that it’s not the point of the strip but Leonard Cohen’s version is my absolute favorite, it’s got more heart than all the others combined

Never heard John Cale’s version, but the better singers versions lacked the gravitas of the original.

BTW, how many caught that the other famous cover was by RUFUS Wainwright?

The best cover of Hallelujah is by K.D. Lang by far. Her performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremony was pure magic.

C’mon guys! Today’s strip was one of the best! Brilliant! And it was such a nice try by the kid.

Please don’t be dissuaded by that one nagging, negative guy who hates this strip with a passion that knows no bounds. Tune him out and enjoy it for it’s briliance. Please!

Dylan isn’t Nobel Laureate for his voice, which, like most singers, has changed over his lifetime. Dylan’s true genius is in his lyrics and the fact that he has influenced so many singers in so many genres – folk, rock, country, blues, gospel, even proto-rap.(for a rap example listen to- Subterranean Homesick Blues © 1965 Bob Dylan)

At least that was better than Oscar Levant’s description of Louis Armstrong, “A frog with a man in his throat.”

There are a lot of singers who owe a great debt to Dylan; prior to him, it was assumed that a recording artist would have a good singing voice. Dylan broke ground for all those folks who had great songs but ‘unusual’ voices.
