U.S. Army made trillions of dollars in accounting mistakes. Congress: You can't account for $62 billion??? General: Hey, balancing a checkbook is really complicated! Congress: And your books are such a mess we can't do an audit?! General: A complete mess! We done here? I've got a nuclear arsenal to look after.

The Pentagon for decades, about all those “civilians” in the building rubbing shoulders, and maybe other parts, with the military ranks looking for jobs outside the revolving door, when they ’retire". Trillions, not mere billions are unaccounted for, notably in contracting, “warfighting” after all is an expensive, and profitable, business, not true necessity.

Imagine the thunder on the right if it had been the Department of Health and Human Services that had made this error. The Repubs would be screaming for budget cuts at the top of their lungs

“Six And a half trillion dollars unaccounted for?” Well, what were you expecting from a ginormous war machine, that only purpose is to perpetuate itself ? Have you ever considered that being a general in the U S armed forces equals to have a lifetime job with all the bells and whistles (Benefits) and after that if you so desire can always become a “Consultant to the highest bidder” something not even the SCOTUS ever dreamed about! You’re welcome !

But, the Army does not handle nuclear weapons. The Nuclear Triad consists of ICBMs scattered across MT, WY, SD, ND, and a few other states, and those deliverable by long-range bombers..The Navy has the other leg sitting in Boomers floating around the oceans under the care of the silent service..That being said, while this is not really a shocker, I suspect the same issue would be found throughout the government’s various agencies and departments……but a few years ago one Rep. Nancy Pelosi was saying that our budget had no more room for cuts, so we needed to raise taxes.

Kip WO for the good old days when it was only “a billion here and a billion there” in the Dirkson quote.
