It is a bit of a blow to see those places go. They’d been there forever, and now they’re going away. It’s like losing one more old landmark. .What I liked even less was when the major chains put the long-time family-owned department stores out of business everywhere we’ve lived. Farewell, Smith and Welton! Adieu, Goldberg’s!

Live in a tiny town (around 2K population) and used to have a Sears and Penny’s “catalogue” stores that did have in store appliances and some product; gone a long time ago. Now, when we go 100+ miles to shop in a “store”, they’re all gone too. We order on line a lot, but our little town now has only about three storefronts, hardware, jewelry, and one food market- we used to have THREE!

My mom was a buyer of years for J.J.Newberry, then May Company, try to find those too? Big Box and Bezos wiped out the face of American merchants, and their purchasing power wiped out quality American manufacturing jobs. T’ain’t politics alone folks, it’s good old “trickle down” capitalism and corporate handcuffing of the middle and lower classes. But don’t worry, Rodeo Drive still has stores and Rolls dealerships to take care of the 1% folks.
