Buddy, my Westie, loves roaming off-leash. Particularly when he can chase and harass chipies (squirrels). He loves gong after chipies (our name for squirrels) , of course, he can never catch one. It’s the chase that counts.

One does not usually need any of those items to release a dog from it’s leash.

cleo, it’s an established trope of this strip that dogs, however smart or dextrous they may otherwise be, find two devices beyond their capabilities: can-openers, and leash clasps.

(Actually, I recall that there was ONE dog a while back who was able to unclasp his own leash, and the other dogs considered it a miracle on the level of water-walking…)

One of our dogs was always getting out of his collar. He didn’t slip it off. He undid the buckle with his paw!

We finally stopped putting his collar on him when he was inside or in the fenced yard.

Fortunately he was too short to reach the latch on the gate.

The dogs in this strip must be more advanced than all the ones I have had, they all walk on two legs.

I love it that all the dogs are drawn walking upright on two “legs”

Pooch, Where are you when I am on my walkie? I see all those nice plump bunnies with the big cotton tails and so many tasty little chipmunks. Even deer in the back yard! My owner just does not buy the line…I won’t go anywhere off leash, I just want to have my neck free for awhile!

Keeley (that’s me on the right, I take a handsome picture don’t I?)

Does liking this make me a liberal?

Well, in the sense that I sympathize with others of my ilk whose freedoms are restrained?
