They recognized the value of literacy so that five years after Sequoyah developed a written language better suited to their spoken on that the Latin alphabet, they had a 90% adult literacy rate (surrounding whites were only 30% literate. Some of the wagons on the Trail of Tears carried the press and type fonts for the Cherokee Phoenix, a bilingual newspaper with three columns in English and two in Cherokee (a syllabary takes up less space than an alphabet)..About the only things they did not adopt were language and clothing (most men wore turbans instead of hats). They also had adult adoption, which is how Sam Houston was legally Cherokee.
Do a little research instead of believing all Indian tribes were the same as the Hollywood stereotype of the plains tribes.
