Methinks TJ is now more worried about where he’ll be living next year than he is about Brad and Toni.

Brad’s folks certainly used to own the place. I can imagine they may have mortgaged it offstage during the run-up to the Fuse Project.

Hey! If the cafe/theater turns out not to be a financial success, does that mean they blew a Fuse?

Or has someone used that one already?

And on another topic: Do we know that the aunt who raised Toni and Fishbait has died, or is she just in another part of the country? I think Toni just said she and her brother “came here”, but I also think she has referred to Fishbait and Shannon as her “only living” relatives". Is there any more back story on the Daytona family than the conversation she had with Brad in the car?

Why does TJ have to move? Just because the couple is getting married doesn’t mean they are entitled to stuff, they planned on moving into toni’s and TJ was gonna have the house; they shouldn’t be able to just come back and say they’re taking the house. I remember a quote, “In fairy tales, love inspires you to be noble and courageous, but in real life, love is just an all-purpose excuse for selfish behavior. You can lie and cheat and hurt people, and it’s all okay because you’re in love.”

I think TJ is duping Brad into staying at Toni’s. Brad: ..the bedroom’s bigger…, TJ: Make love, not lasagna….Brad: How’s that? In translation, Brad wouldn’t you rather spend more time in the bedroom?

For once, I agree with TJ. And I give a little wink to Brad for being so aware of the size of her bedroom………….and don’t go telling me that he was just in there to replace a light bulb.

I just don’t get why the responsible commentators of all strips in this comic don’t seem to notice how the shift to adult references in a relationship—SEX—is being made with this arc. The move to the house, which was originally TJ’s in the first place, and notably TJ does not seem to mind that Toni and Brad might take it over basically evicting him, is book-ended with a continuation of Brad’s original hint of having lots of “practice” time with Toni, time which would be private. It kind of reminds me of a comment sometime ago where someone bemoaned that Luann was no longer in grade school pining over Aaron Hill. One of the great things about this strip is that, while the time moves slowly, it does, and the characters develop. Engaged people generally do a LOT of sex, married people maybe less over time, but it still amounts to a LOT, and results in little versions of them and life goes on. TJ makes that clear in his “make love not lasagna” riff.

If Brad and Toni live in the house, they’ll have an extra bedroom for Shannon. They’ll probably need it and I think it would make Shannon feel more secure to feel that she has another place where she belongs.

TJ’s expression in the last frame tells me that both he and Brad know this is a desperation play on TJ’s part, and that he’ll be packing his pots and pans soon.

Actually, what I’m reading here is that TJ doesn’t like Toni’s apt. He’s already said the “kitchen is too small.” As a chef, he’d want the largest kitchen possible. I think this is shaping up to be a significant source of conflict… We’ll see.

It’s time for TJ to grow up and earn his own living, and live in his own home (be it house, apartment rental, condo, trailer; whatever). Brad and Toni (and in due course Shannon and perhaps even eventually children of their own) have greater need of a the house. And, yeah, since it belongs to Brad’s parents, I think he and Toni are likely to get it….

TJ was REALLY looking forward to having the place to himself, wasn’t he? Hmmm….. wonder how hard he’ll try and talk Brad and Toni into NOT living at the house?…Actually folks, it WAS a rather rude (but understandable and innocent) overnight to just assume and announce the plan to TJ. Sounds like plans were discussed and known by him. He IS a person involved in this, and should have been consulted. Maybe even asked. (No matter how offensive some find him.);-)

Brad’s parents purchased the house, NOT TJ. Brad was the original tenant w TJ as housemate, but it is possible his name is on a rental agreement, too. Yes, it’s called eminent domain in law. Since it often curiously occurs to poorer and powerless neighborhoods when some rich guy wants a city to build him a sports arena (or some rich developers need a highway built to open farmland to development), it also has to do with selfish behavior. You rarely see cities shove sports arenas into rich neighborhoods, or bissect high end places with 8 lane highways…

Weird night here. My step-mom who would be 102 if she could make it to Nov 7th is passing. My step-sister-in-law was in touch w me earlier since we are in a different state. I hope i can fall asleep soon; too tense right now. Blanche had a pacemaker put in when she was 99, so her gentle passing might take longer than otherwise. She became my step-mom when i was an adult so our’s has always been a trusting adult family friendship relationship.
