It’s a metaphor. And what you posted is exactly the thought behind the cartoon.

Oh, and just why did anybody compare Mr. Obama (or ANY public figure for that matter) to the Messiah? Does anyone REALLY think government will save us? Government’s purpose is not to save us form ourselves and provide for us. Last I looked, a government that did that went belly up after being corrupt, overbloated, topheavy, and totalitarian for 50+ years (in case you can’t figure it out, I’m talking about the former Soviet Union). Our government was supposed to be BY the people and FOR the people…….not to SAVE the people. You won’t find the Messiah in politics. Not now, not ever. You wanted saved, find religion. You want good government, don’t blindly follow ANY politician, or EVER compare one of them to ANY savior.

“Our government was supposed to be BY the people and FOR the people…….not to SAVE the people. ”

Protection from external (wars) and internal (crime) enemies is one of the chief reasons why we have organized government, magicman. It is not a panacea, but there might just be a reason this form of government has lasted as long as it did.

    And hey, good one, Pavlov!

be thankful you can even post here, much less read cartoons like this. very few other countries share both opportunities. Trivia: The USA is the only country that has lasted as long, and NOT had 2 or more (violent) complete changes of government. Normal maximum life-span for any single government form is less than 200 years. Even though it hung on for nearly 600 years, the monster sized Roman Empire technically shuffled it’s style after every single emperor, and quite radically when a Rome family got “snipped”.

Not everyone named Jesus is Latino. Some are Filipino.

Those I know who think they’re Jesus, took too many drugs & sat in the desert sun too long.

Tiger-Striped Mittaines says; Only americans (american HUMANS…. or maybe dogs) could get their butt fur up in a bunch over a middle name. That would be insulting to the intelligence of every other nation on Earth.

I don’t even know what Stephen Harper’s middle name is, or what Paul Martin’s is, or Jean Chrétien’s…I only know Trudeau’s middle name was Eliott.

Dr.C….Tea Party people are not opposed to Obama because of his name. They are not opposed to Obama because of his parents. They are opposed because of his intemperate words accusing Americans and apologizing to the foreign world for America and because of his Leftist Socialist Agenda and the Radicals he appointed to high positions and for his Takeovers of industry after industry and for his One Size Fits All healthcare controls, cost and unavoidable Rationing in the near future.

“They are opposed because of his intemperate words accusing Americans and apologizing to the foreign world for America ”

The “worst” words I have seen from Obama is saying that at times, Americans did not behave in the best of ways. This invariably is preceded or followed by another affirmation of all the good things America stands for, or the continuation that the rest of the world didn’t treat America that well either. Sorry, I’m not impressed.

    “Leftist Socialist Agenda”

…. which has been vastly overrated. Big businesses were bailed out at conditions much more preferable to those any private lender would have given them, and they suffered little to no control or backlash when additional (unpopular) revelations about bonuses or spending came to light. The healthcare reform didn’t budge the private monopolies, instead just - eventually - would provide them more customers, some funded with public money.

Rationing? In a system where 10+ percent don’t have access to a service, and many others have claims revoked or declined, there already IS rationing - and arguably much more than in truly universal systems. The current healthcare plan changes little. Takeovers - where is the “takeover” of businesses, anyway? I’m not seeing any nationalizations or even the massive changes of top personnel - what has changed for the companies that took public funds, exactly?

CF, the guys you named are all Caucasian. *If* you ever get a non-Caucasian running Canada we’ll see what happens then.

^ Your head of state (The Queen of England, go figure) appoints the Governor General.

Who knows what might happen if it was an elected position or if it had as much power as the Prime Minister.

My comment stands, your Prime Ministers have all been Caucasian. When you get a non-Caucasian running for Prime Minister we’ll see what happens then.

^That’s because Canada is as white as its snow. WE have much less black people, most of them are pretty recent (since the sixties) and we have one percent natives.

BUT there was and still is a major racial difference; Protestant english-speakers and catholic french-speakers. The french ones are not all in Quebec and there was a time when catholics couldn’t even vote (about 200 years back).

Canada became independent in 1867. The prime minister then was John A Macdonald. Who was in his place before the century was over?

Wilfrid Laurier. A french-canadian. He was the first of a few great politicians; Louis Saint-Laurent, Pierre Trudeau (kept Quebec from seceeding) Jean Chrétien (ditto Trudeau + kept us out of the Iraq War), Brian Mulroney (his name doesn’t sound french, but he was).
