On the other hand, there is no such thing as a “routine” traffic stop. The most dangerous person I ever arrested had a gun and 9 warrants out for homicide, including for police officers he’ killed at traffic stops. On the same note, I had a backup for a change, and police working alone is a big part of the problem, no partner means increased danger, and a lot of the over-reaction we see today. (Along with the post 9-11 “militarization” of too many departments.)
Or, we could analyze how many traffic stops a day take place without a violent encounter. 2 million? 3 million? The odds of getting shot by a cop in a routine traffic stop are literally 10 million to one, or so. We don’t need a police state, but this demonizing of law enforcement has no good end. What’s the alternative, Robocops? No law enforcement at all?
The videos on the last two police shootings were quite disturbing. As usual there wasn’t enough to say what happened but the officer involved seemed much too willing to pump a half a dozen rounds into the victim. The Philando Castile killing is particularly disturbing since Philando had no prior record and was apparently a respected member of the community and it sounded like he was really trying to cooperate with the officer.
26 police officers killed in the line of duty, SO FAR, this year. BTW Darsan 54, in over 1,200 felony arrests, several armed “bad guys”, I never shot anyone. Today’s “shoot first, ask questions later” is a philosophy spread by the NRA’s “Armed Citizen” columns, as well as too many police departments accepting in their training. High capacity weapons, firearms and armored vehicles, are bad business for BOTH sides, actually. Restraint, on all sides, is also the key to discussion and non-violence, but it doesn’t work well when only used in hindsight.
Wolf: I agree, that our “gun culture” in the US is totally out of control, and I’m a gun owner, hunter, and sport shooter, plus have WAY too many squirrels on my property this year, but can’t poison because 1. Have a cat, and 2. Take their little blasted bodies to a gal fostering injured eagles and other raptors for feed. BTW, also use more expensive non-lead bullets the NRA objects to, because lead will kill the birds!
you know… people go about spouting numbers and percentages… Do you really do research on all this or are they … forget it… as it was once said.. .“there is no cure for Stupid”
So, when you disagree with someone, you stumble around trying to formulate complete and coherent sentences, but failing at that, your fallback is to call them " stupid.".
More ammo for “Black Lies Matter.” It’s amazing how Benson was forced to step back a bit after Dallas’s outcome. They’re STILL calling for more dead cops, though. They were even celebrating IN Dallas after the shooting. I cannot think of anything more toxic in America today than BLM, and its support from “our” president.

That was FOUR police officers, stinking auto-correct.
