I honestly don’t think we’re going far enough. Automatic weapons? Chump change. I think we should – in the spirit of having a well armed militia – broaden our thinking. Me: I want an F4E (I’m old fashioned and it’s an aircraft I can fly). I would be responsible and use it only for ground attack missions (for sportsman-like hunting — squirrels and such, ‘fragging burglars, and ’naping terrorists, etc.). F4Es are pretty much surplus and you should be able to pick one up at a gun show at bargain-basement prices. Think of the protection a nice 2nd Amendment weapon like that offers. I’d feel a lot safer, more manly (dear Lord, TWO J-79 engines), and pleased that my CAS fighter would put them dang-nabbed pinko liberal commies and their creepy foreign friends in their place. Remember: when Phantoms are outlawed, only outlaws will have Phantoms.
Those are two of many problems. How about taxing the megarich like we did in the 1950’s and 1960’s. How about universal healthcare like other wealthy nations have. How about puting the corporations, wall street and the banks on short leashes. How about restoring the Glass Steagal act with sharp teeth. How about closing most or all overseas US military bases and some domestic bases and employing our veterans in good union jobs rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure.
So, if the shooting can be connected to ISIS no matter how tenuous and no matter all the other mass shootings, there cannot be any problem with the proliferation of assault weapons.
And every attempt of any kind to control even assault weapons is exactly the same thing as confiscation of every weapon from every law abiding citizen (but not criminals) and taking away everyone’s right to own a gun of any kind.

How about a pressure cooker? Mateen mentioned his admiration for the Boston Marathon bombers, although I’m not sure that made it past Loretta Lynch’s censor. The gun was convenient, but it wasn’t the cause.
Sandy Hook, Colorado Springs, Kip KInkle, Roseburg, Santa Barbara, Aurora, Columbine, Tampa (movie theater too), L.A. Bank of America robbers outrunning the cops, and many other incidents, on smaller scales daily in America, and no Muslims in sight, but lots of deadly high capacity weapons, not just AR-15s (which btw Mateen did NOT use), when will the carnage even be reduced if no effort is made to do what SCALIA demanded in DC vs Heller “It is the DUTY of government to regulate firearms when you leave your home.”
Mass shootings kill a lot of people all at once, but they don’t happen every day. Most of the shooting deaths are one here and one there, hour after hour, day after day, all over the country. And it’s not Muslim terrorists who are responsible for these every-day shootings.
I’m in favor of better gun control laws, but I have to admit I don’t think gun are the real problem or that guns laws are the real solution. The real problem and the real solution is that you guys are all nuts and should be locked up for the safety of the world.
This toon is painfully obvious – the problem is dead center. And the 35+ comments made the same point. It’s the poster on the left, no on the right. No, its the lunatics in the middle who won’t talk about serious issues with guns and fanatics. No gun by itself ever killed 50 people in a night club. No terrorist without a gun ever killed 50 people in a night club. If you have a problem with either of those statements, come to the middle and see how both sides are wrong and right.

Typical “conservative” cartoon.
Every argument is either/or or all or nothing.

So Joe pointed his finger at Jim and said “Bang! Bang!” and Jim fell over dead, because, as we all know, guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
