At least 3 have to do with religious fanaticism. More people have been killed defending their version of God than almost any other reason.

Lets see, all but the San Bernardino two had mental problems that weren’t addressed, three were Muslim terrorists, two were children of broken homes whose mothers sheltered them and provided the guns. Until we address the mental health care issues in this country and do a better job of screening immigrant applications this will continue. Get the mental health care and enforce the patients to take the medications prescribed. If the mentally ill refuse to take their meds, institutionalize them. This will cost money, but I’d rather pay a 10% tax on everything rather than have insane people walking the streets that refuse to take their meds. For the Muslim terrorists, the Mosques of this nation need to step up and stop preaching Jihad and report any that do.

Time to ban assault weapons again against the will of the GOP and NRA.

Yes, all the victims did not have assult weapons. Everyone should carry an assult rifle especially if they can hide it under there clothing. Childern going to school should all be issued assult rifles. The more guns there are the safer everyone will be.

@PainterArtActually you are not that far from the real solution; Mandatory gun use training. Know what to do will go a long way in preventing tragedies. Sort of like First Aid. Also knowing about guns and what they do will go a long way in deciding weather to obtain a gun or not, like an educated decision. If ever the country is faced with the possibility of a tyrant, knowing that the population is trained in Gun use will be a deterrent. I’m aware this will never happen, especially with people like you who like to throw infantile comments as if they were truths. If you think that guns are a problem do something about it other than just talking or writing useless comments, many legislators have been very clear that the majority of the existing gun laws are not been enforced, what makes you think a new one will. Also think of this; the whole world have heard of the British and Australian failures of gun confiscations, how many American will actually give their guns up. It is estimated, not proved of course, that only 5% of the guns owned by Canadians were actually registered, when the registry was in effect. It was so expensive that the current government doesn’t even want to mention it. So it seems that education is a solution.

How many registered cars, trucks, motorcycles, and motor scooters registered in America, and licensed drivers too boot, so why impossible to track firearms and licensed, sane, gun owners?

"Well regulated militia’ IS the critical component of the Second, even Scalia said so in “DC vs Heller”.

Too bad you don’t know what an “Assault” weapon is because the guns used in most, if not all of the cases mentioned were NOT “assault” weapons but regular semi-auto guns that only fire once per trigger pull. Only fully automatic guns are “assault” weapons. The so called “assault weapons ban” simply restricts the sale of some rifles based on LOOKS ALONE, not their lethality or rate of fire as they are ALL semi-automatic already. Full-auto weapons are VERY expensive, limited in availability and HIGHLY restricted by Federal and State law requiring rigid background checks from both, a federal tax stamp that MUST accompany the gun everywhere and more. They are NOT cheap or easy to get, even on the black market.

dtroutma, Registration always leads to confiscation and we don’t need to register a Right.

Not wanting to pick a fight, but I believe that the Umpqua shooter did NOT use an “assault” weapon. He used a common handgun. The space inside the church would not have given him enough room to use a longer weapon. I abhor violence, but let’s keep the facts accurate.

No one is going to believe it, but the common denominator is that all five (and Charleston) were active shooter drills. All of them are likely complete hoaxes perpetrated by DHS.

Yes!… I see it! They are all out of control cowards who used places that had restrictions on citizens to defend themselves.

Looks like gun-free-zones need to be banned.

My CCP is registration, and I’m not concerned about the government coming for my guns, but do keep them locked up to keep burglars or “bad guys” from getting them. Registration is a means of assuring more owners ARE careful about protecting their weapons, btw. Found this out in New Zealand with their laws that make gun owners more responsible.

The Right-wing PC police are out in force on this. It is not a massacre, it is not a tragedy, those aren’t assault weapons and its a radical Muslim. If you don’t evoke these exact words, the terrorists will win and liberals will take over. If you call for action on gun laws, or calling for cooler heads to prevail, you are insane. The problem isn’t guns, it is people without guns. No wonder Trump is the guy chosen by the Republicans to represent them. Isn’t it funny that you can’t say assault weapon, but you cry about being politically correct when it comes to another human being? Or is it because you have a 2nd amendment to carry machine guns, but there is no amendment that says you don’t have to be a racist?

Steven Pinker:“The honest answer is that we can’t stop them. Despite the round-the-clock media coverage, mass shootings are in fact rare compared to the more than 35 homicides that show up on police blotters every day. And rare events are inherently difficult to predict and control. In a country of 315 million people and almost as many weapons (which won’t evaporate any time soon), nothing can prevent .0001 percent of those people from wreaking revenge or gaining notoriety by the only guaranteed recipe for becoming famous: killing a lot of innocent people. The best we can do is try to lower the odds. Two measures are common sense: outlawing or restricting bloodbath weapons, and increasing the reach of mental health services. (Most mass shooters have a history of disturbance.)”
