I always loved our vacation trips. Any excuse to get out of Phoenix in July was appreciated.

When did Calvin ever take his imagination cap off?

Growing up, I learned to never tell my parents I’m bored because they ALWAYS found chores for me to do.

Sure, what could possibly go wrong? LOL

I love the smile on Dad’s face as he says that!

It’s OK. A death-wish a day (without guilt…) keeps the shrink away.

Where is Hobbes?

Great line from dad. If you’re going to take a car trip with a little kid, you have to plan frequent stops so they can get out and burn off all that energy they’ve been storing up. Look for any roadside attractions you expect to pass along the way.

I wonder if my dad ever asked me that. I probably would have said “yes.”

Is this is the first camping trip for the family?

How many people have figured out Calvin’s dad was just like Calvin when he was a kid?

No? How about deep sea diving? (sans air hose?)

Dad’s amazing. He keeps his sunny disposition even when his brain is exploding.

Back in the day when you could use your kid as an anchor; not anymore thanks to social services.

I remember reading about one camping trip in a Calvin and Hobbes collection we had. If it starts raining tomorrow, I will know that this is the one.

The trip wouldn’t have been so agonizing if they weren’t such rubbish parents.

If I were Calvin right now, I’d have a sinking feeling…

This trip seems a little less strenuous than Dad’s later vacations, which somehow turn into character lessons.

In one of his early collections Bill Watterson commented that he got a lot of flak for this strip from people who clearly had no sense of humor and probably no kids.

Calvin’s not old enough yet to that house.

Comic time is different…

Calvin’s dad is quite the dork. Why would one expect Calvin to be any different than he is?
