    Is ‘glop’ an onomatopoeia?

Yes. So is “bakbuk”, a Hebrew word that would be perfect for the sound of the gravy they pour on the glop.

Cafeteria food still beats C-Rations, which the Air Force served us in Germany in the early ’60s.

But wait! High School cafeteria food is worse than Middle School cafeteria food? Not where I come from!

SANDFAN Don’t know how hungry you got in Germany, but sitting in the mud, C-rats were welcome to an empty stomach. And God bless those cigarettes.

My favourite meal at college was “mystery meat”. Never did find out what was in it.

I never understood all of the school cafeteria food horrors. My school district has had tasty food for as long as I can remember. Seafood is their weak point, but everything else is fine for me. Especially the home made yeast rolls.

I remember that the cafeteria food tasted much better if it was served shortly after it was cooked. Same problem with hospital food. Even if the food was good when it was first cooked, sitting in those warmers for an hour or so will ruin it. My husband had neck surgery at a small specialty hospital, and I’d go back there again, if need be. He could eat anytime the cafe was open, all he had to do was call in his order, they’d cook it especially for him and deliver it ASAP to his room. (All private rooms, and a fold-out bed for a family member to sleep on if they want to stay overnight.)
