This is becoming a thing, we had a sub shop do that. The thing I found nasty was the High School contracted Domino’s to serve pizza at the school when there are many local pizza joints which are a lot better. No kickbacks, I guess.
It is sad that schools have to do this especially now that the emperor in the white house is threatening to take away funding if schools do not submit to his radical agenda demands.
Whereas it’s probably good corporate entities make some charitable effort, but most ruin it through making it part of their marketing efforts. They still sell a lotta crap, but the charity benefits only incidentally. I would like to see a company make a donation directly from their profits because it’s the right thing to do.
We’ll keep women out of the women’s bathroom “for the children” but lets starve the funding for education, teach non-science and cut arts. If you really cared about children, you would be pushing for education not silly bathroom bills and attacking women.
I think it would be more appropriate if the students had to serve the teachers. It would encourage them to study harder if they knew what the results of dropping out were.
I had never heard of this, and just do not know what to say. Thanks to Night-Gaunt49 for all-too-briefly pointing out the peril of libertarianism (the mere fact that a system has a few good points should not distract us that they are embedded in a thoroughly poisonous matrix of anti-environmentalism, anti-poor people, and social darwinism). This is, so far as I can recall, only the second time I’ve ever agreed with ChevJames007 about anything. And I know the $h!t my wife, and other teachers, put up with. The easiest thing to do is to boycott McDonalds (and other junk food palaces) permanently. Good for the health, good for the environment, bad for their CEOs—that’s what I call a win-win-win situation.
Welcome to Republican politics, local and national. Potholes. Who cares? Amtrak safety and maintenance. Let ‘em wait, who cares about crashing trains? TSA lines? No worries, the Republicans just didn’t want to properly fund the agency. Early childhood education? No problem. Not necessary. Clean water? Uh, nope, let’s save a few bucks and send some lead to the black kids in Flint. Federal support for education? Not in the cards, they would make us teach science and math. We don’t want the kids to think about evolution or understand the research statistics behind anthropogenic climate change. Sensible gun laws? Not a chance, we know our right to inflict accidents and mayhem shall not be abridged. On and on it goes. The Grand Old Pothole party. Brought to you by your local car repair shop and the right wing. Enjoy!

In the last panel, it looks like Sorensen “borrowed” Mr. Butts from Doonesbury
