Many years ago, the daughter of my in-laws’ friends drove down to Mardi Gras from the Chicago area. She was advised to drive VERY carefully, especially when she got to some of those rural speed trap towns. She was told the cops there love to write tickets, especially if they see you have out of state plates.
Her folks told her that if she got pulled over, sometimes she could beat the ticket by offering to buy tickets to the local Policeman’s Ball. No guarantee, but worth a shot.
Sure enough, she was way down in the sticks when she got pulled over by a state trooper. Remembering the advice she had been given, she offered to buy tickets to the Policeman’s Ball.
The trooper says to her (no lie!) “Ma’am, State Police don’t have balls.”
When he realized what he had said, he was so embarrassed, he couldn’t write the ticket, and he let her go.
