Senor Bull, I have been a great admirer of Representative Waters for twenty years, but I’d rather that we use evidence, not “common sense”. I do not see her saying what Lisa Benson claims that she says in this cartoon, and with her, with Representative Rangel, and with Bush-Dick, if we could ever try him–all are innocent until proven guilty.

Maxine SwampWaters….day of comeuppance is drawing near….

6 more Democrats are currently under investigation…

BTW, senorhate the GOP, Rangel himself triggered a 2-year probe; Waters and the other Democrats are not “racist targets”…the Office of Ethics receives allegations from in and out of the House sources…and the committee is 4 Dems plus 4 GOP……check the list of past ethics probes and findings, and most were “white”….if “color” is your standard, senor! Corruption is not identified by skin color, but by deliberate actions of House members who have no excuse, they write and they know the rules.

P.S. www.boston.com/news today has an article “Frank warned colleague not to aid troubled bank” that printed out 4 pages, in 2008. Her husband Sidney Williams had served on the board of OneUnited from 2004 to 2008 and was a stockholder….

Politico 8/2/10 4 page article reported that Waters was #3 on the House Financial Services committee, and her husband “owned roughly $250,000 worth of stock in the bank…in Water’s home city of Los Angeles.”

She is an attorney and surely knew what she was doing, although claiming now that she “did nothing wrong”…..

(maybe before they take the oath of office, a remedial course in “right versus wrong” is needed?)

Regardless of the motivation or results, for us to believe that there is no racism in our country today is living in fantasy land. Get real, whether overly scrutinizing black congress members looking for wrongful actions or the flip side, encouraging illegals to sneak into our country under the guise of not being racist. Today’s racist always plays the race card to their own advantage…as always.

It’s so typical. Clearly, because two of the house members being investigate are black, its racist. Would it be racist if they both happened to be Hispanic? Or Asian? Of course not.

I think the connection people need to make is that they both have been representatives forever. Election to an office should never be a lifetime appointment. The longer you are a member, the more temptation and opportunity there is for corruption, whether white, black, democrat, or republican.

I feel like term-limits is something with which everyone can agree.

How many spouses did she cheat on, divorce, and how many crooked book deals did she “alter” when caught?

Maybe 12 years is enough? Two terms in the Senate, and alter the Constitution to allow 4 year House terms, and limit them to three? It takes 2 years to learn the ropes and get some seniority, then they’d have a max of 10 more to be “functional”.

It would also limit those “slush funds” called campaign finance.

Bruce, it is perfectly reasonable for the caucus of African-American representatives to see whether African-American legislators are examined more closely. Ethics may be colorblind, but the House Ethics committee may not be. Investigating every single member of congress would be an enormous waste of time and money. We have an economy that still needs help, two foreign occupations to end, declining public education, a growing gap between rich & poor, and a huge budget deficit. Congress has much better things to do.

Thanks, DisTax, for the link to THE BOSTON GLOBE’s article. Representative Frank shows his ethics, acumen, & intelligence. I wish that he had run for the Senate. Massachusetts would not have saddled itself with that moron, Scott Brown, and the Senate Democrats would have a stronger collective spine.

    ^^ Bill Clinton (D) Mark Sanford (R)

One (D) gets threatened with impeachment. The other (R) gets defended with citations of King David.

    Both sides defend their own.

It’s not the second shoe descending on Representative Waters. It’s the third. The first shoe fell on Senator Ensign, who is enmeshed in a scandal involving misuse of campaign funds & adultery. Of course, we hear nothing about it, because the media continue their right-leaning ways.

By the way, unlike 2006, when the Republicans tried to cover up their scandals, in 2010, the Democrats are cleaning house, even when the scandals involved Democrats.

BrianCrook you kind of scare me. Do you really, really think the media is biased to the right? Ok, so FoxNews, and…..and….? I’m running out of other media outlets to name.

We don’t cover up our scandals. We voters generally throw republican criminals out of office, or they resign. Interesting you mention Barney Frank though, the guy who had a prostitution ring running from his house. I’m sure he would have been MUCH better than Scott Brown.

^ How’d that “ACORN actually didn’t commit the crimes Fox News and James O’Keefe painted it as committing” retraction go?

    *crickets*

Brian Crook said: “in 2010, the Democrats are cleaning house, even when the scandals involved Democrats.”

senorbullwinkle said: “RACIST ? WELL, JUST A LITTLE, MAYBE; 8 investigations, all black”

So the Democrats are racist now? Usually that term is just used by Journolists to smear anyone who disagrees with them, so I’m just trying to understand this.

Aw shucks, my computer is made by fisher price AND I’m using dial-up. I guess I’m royally screwed.

Somehow I managed to get it to work, and I see in the video Keith Olberman talking to Eugene Robinson, (clearly part of the right-wing media), and Eugene says hes no statistician, but it seems unlikely that all eight would be black. Damning proof, for sure.

Some of these lawmakers under investigation include, Jesse Jackson, Jr., for possible involvement in the Blagojevich scandal, who is also being investigated by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald; and Gregory Meeks, who is also being investigated by the New York State Attorney General’s office.

Other interesting news, is that 3 of these black congressman were investigated by the OCE for the same offense, for which the punishment is minor, and two other white representatives had their names submitted for investigation the same day all these others were. And 2 of these black congressman are being investigated by other government departments. Do some research before you make wild and ridiculous accusations. Keith Olberman is not a reliable source.

If all Congress people jumped off a cliff would Maxine Waters do it as well? Sorry, wishful thinking there for a moment.

If her defense is that it’s wrong but everyone else is doing it, that is pretty weak.

b.crook…I only referenced the Globe article to show that even a fellow “crooked House Democrat” tried to warn SwampWaters not to get involved to help ONE SINGLE MINORITY BANK (she now claims she was “helping” an entire association…but the meeting she set up was only for the bank her husband held $250,000 stock and was board member of!)…..

I would not vote for Frank (if he were in my state and district) because IMO he is Far Left on the political spectrum….and had a great deal to do with CAUSING the real estate bubble/ Fannie/Freddie BURST/SCANDAL/RECESSION!

thanks Churchill…..you are correct…the Barrack Propaganda Channel…MSNBC…a “news” channel I thought could not get worse but recently just did get worse…have you seen “ED” in the evening? Rant & Rave anti-GOP & anti-Conservative and anti-Fox (#1 News in ratings) and anti-Truth!

the Ethics Office is “independent” and half D/half R…. I heard a rumor that Obama/Pelosi is cleaning out known violators of ethics to (1) soften coming political campaign attacks by the Dem’s opponents and (2) Obama is repeating his Chicago MO to be rid of political opponents who spoke or worked against Obama! (Rangel and Waters were pro-Hillary in the ‘08 Dem Primaries…..

Corruption is not a “racist” issue…..God says in the Bible that every human heart is EVIL…..and mankind behaves as the heart directs….

No senorbullwinkle, everyone knows Keith Olberman is unreliable. You’re really one of the few that doesn’t get this. But hey, keep insulting Fox News, because even though I’ve never said that they were anymore reliable than Olberman, obviously I must be a slave to that network.

I’m done debating with you. When you actually come up with evidence, and thought-out rebuttals, we can continue.

Of course the media lean to the right, Camealy. MSNBC has a few left-leaning pundits (Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, others whom I do not know [I seldom watch any of the cable news channels: none is as good as reading a good newspaper or an intelligent magazine]), but it has at least one right-leaning one, too: Joe Scarborough. There may be others, but, as I said, I watch them very little.

CNN, NBC, ABC, & CBS all lean to the right, as one would expect. They are billion-dollar organizations, protecting the interests of their owners & their owners’ friends, i.e., supporting Big Business over Labor & over the working-class. One of the main reasons that our middle- & working-classes & our impoverished & disadvantaged vote against their own interests and with the interests of the wealthy is because these classes absorb all their information via the mainstream media of radio & television, which has frightened them about higher taxes, even when the taxes of these classes won’t rise, only those of the wealthy, and distracts these classes with minor social issues (“gay marriage”, “’partial-birth’ abortion, “illegal immigrants”, &c.). Most Americans are convinced, for example, that “illegal immigrants” commit more crimes (leaving aside how they arrived in this country, in the first place) than do native-born Americans and that “illegals” use social services more than do native-born Americans. THEY DO NOT, but you would never know it from national radio & television.

There is much more to write on this topic, but my five minutes are up. Time to fetch the produce & then, return ’phone calls. Good day (or night), all.

As far as the media bias goes, check out this website: http://www.mrc.org/public/default.aspx Even if you don’t want to accept that, look at it from a common sense point of view. Before Fox News came out, you had many of the other news networks previously mentioned. Then, suddenly, this right-biased network just shoots through the roof in ratings. Why? Because finally, all the conservatives had a news channel they could watch and agree with, filling a void that previously existed.

I like how you say “THEY DO NOT”, as if you know for certain. Please provide evidence. This article makes some interesting comparisons, but doesn’t say that illegal immigrants ARE responsible for higher crime rates or not. http://www.usillegalaliens.com/impactsofillegalimmigration_crime.html (there are underscores in between “of”, “illegal”, “immigration” and “crime”.)

As for the increased social services, I believe we can all agree that the closer you are to the poverty level, the less taxes you pay, and the more benefits you receive. This article shows how drastically higher the near poverty and poverty levels are for illegal immigrants. http://www.cis.org/articles/2001/mexico/poverty.html

Please, don’t make unsupported claims, unless you let everyone know its your opinion.

At my place of employment, unethical behavior includes “the potential appearance of conflict of interest”.

Waters’ case CERTAINLY includes such potential.
