Gunther: You don't think I need to be more dark and brooding, like Piro? Tiffany: Why? So bernice will fall for a you that's not you?

since when has Tiffany always been a pal to those she pokes fun of back in middle/high school?

Now we get to see who is actually the intelligent one here. Tiffany is telling Gunther something very important. We have to hope he’s listening.

Such insight from Tiffany! It’s nice to see her shine.

I think this is Bizzarro Tiffany!

Looks like there’s no spark here either way… unless Tiff is afraid to tell him.

She had to grow up sometime.
Now, if Gunther will just listen to her, he can do likewise.

A few days ago, I said that Tiffany had become a sympathetic character. But this move really surprised me. She got him to calm down. I think Gunther’s real problem is that he feels guilty about abandoning Rosa in South America. And I hate his expression in the last frame.

Amazing how Team Evans’ is doing the right thing and allowing Tiffany to show that what was high school was yesterday – she has matured, evaluated herself, and determined what is important – and who is important in her life. She now speaks with a confidence and a belief in self.
-
I can only hope that Team Evans’ has decided that all the characters will start to grow and mature into young adults who see beyond themselves and realize that they have something to contribute …

Might be the wisest thing Tiffany has ever said.
wiselad about 8 years ago
she is smart, she just chooses not to gain knowledge about what she finds boring, her interests are cosmetics, how to entice people by reading what they want ( so she can see who people really are ) decorating and cheerleading

I don’t remember Tiffany picking on Gunther much in high school….she just didn’t give him the time of day. But she was like that with everyone except Aaron Hill and Crystal. Remember, she did give Gunther that makeover once and she didn’t do anything mean…she did make him look good. She just saw him as “a project”.

This more than makes up for yesterday!

My guess is that Tiffany will try to help Gunther out by talking to Bernice, but Bernice will think it is because Tiff wants Piro for herself…
Dreamdeer about 8 years ago
Also Tiff’s last line fits so well a conversation with the only guy to see he without makeup and with her hair in a towel.

Why do I get the feeling Tiffany will tell Bernice that she is overlooking a GREAT guy for a guy you barely know only for Bernice to drop the bomb that Gunther thinks she’s dumb?

Tiffany, Tiffany, Tiffany, you are becoming such a fantastic person, and are extending yourself, not being selfish, but really being caring and understanding. Wow this is great, now only if Gunther can successfully act upon it. And she is right about him.

Yesterday, everyone was all up in arms about the “You don’t count” business. Turned out to be much ado. .If Tiffany has matured, she’ll try to help Gunther go after Bernice. When Bernice tells him he’s a nice guy but she needs to explore the New Bernice by going after Piro, Tiff will be there to pick up the pieces.. I think Tiff’s being honest— she does think of herself as Gunther’s pal, and is willing to help him and let the chips fall.

Does Tiffany have a “Pal,” other than Gunther and maybe Crystal?
Ruth Brown about 8 years ago
Excellent recovery. Tiffany is showing herself the most emotionally mature of the group. I think they are pals, but she also realizes that something could develop. Guntehr felt the spark earlier, too. I hope that Gunther lives up to what Tiffany just said about him. When that happens they will be ready for each other and whatever snarky comments come from their gang.

Nice save by Team Evans. The Tiffany/Gunther arc (really the only one in the strip that has my interest at the moment) was starting to lose me. It seems to be heading in a good direction again. And three more days in the week, too. Nice.

JNOLO about 8 years ago
A “pal?” This was unexpected. Not sure what to make of it yet. But indeed Tiffany knows what’s with with Gunther and Bernice. Gotta admit that I was more interested in Gunther X Tiffany as an “opposites attract” arc, rather than a gal pal helping out a guy who shouldn’t try for someone that he expects is an intellectual match. Obviously Bernice isn’t concerned about that as much as he appears to be.

Who would have ever thought that Tiffany would be the first person in Luann’s peer group to grow up? Every last one of the rest is still the same character they were in high school. Of all of them, Tiffany seems to be the one making the best use of her time in college. She’s been working hard on her studies and she has developed as a person.
Tiffany.

9I am happy that Gunther apologized for his nasty comment yesterday.I am happy also that Tiffany seems to have been able to easily brush aside the rude comment, and look past it. I think many would have been hurt by the comment and not so successful at looking past it.But, the best part about today’s comic is that we are again seeing more of the really nice, kind, and caring side of TIffany. I have really enjoyed her growth and development as a character since going to college. Overall a very nice day here!

RSH about 8 years ago
I was predicting that Tiffany might break down and that Gunther would feel bad but this is even better. Tiffany does really (IMO) have some social IQ. For example, she knows she’s attracted to Gunther but has figured out that as long as she doesn’t use the word “girlfriend” she can pursue the friendship. She recognized immediately that this (Gunther’s insecurities about himself) was a place to have an impact and create a closer relationship.
Numbnumb about 8 years ago
I still hope that Gunther and Tiffany will become an “Item”. They would be an interesting couple.
JPN001 about 8 years ago
I am always wary of reading too much into the background illustrations, but something struck me today that I had not noticed on either Monday or Tuesday. The pictures of Tiffany that had been on the wall to the right of her couch (when facing the couch) are missing. They were there the other two times that we have seen Gunther in her dorm suite, but they are conspicuously absent from this week’s strips, especially Monday’s strip, which is from the point of view in which we have seen them in the past.
Tiffany’s maturation may involve more than just her friendship (maybe someday more) with Gunther and the fact that we have only seen her act like the old Tiffany around Luann, but not really around others, since her biology outing with Gunther; Tiffany may be learning to like, and accept, herself as she is, not as she projected herself to be. This would make her advice to Gunther all the more poignant, as it is something she is learning for herself as well.

One point and one observation.1. Forgiving and forgetting are two different things. For myself the best solution has involved both, then for specific ones astute avoidance of those individuals who will not improve themselves, not grow, if they were destructive.
2. Has anyone else wondered if the Evanes wound up consulting experts on teen and young adult maturation when writing the related arcs? They just FIT! I mean, they are DOWN RIGHT ASTUTE. If they did they kudos on such a reputable and professional approach. If they did not then bravo for incredible observational skills.

Puzz, that person’s Piro scent comment got me thinking. Can a poster who apparently can smell in 2D (A super power? A handicap? An illusion?) also detect scent in the 3D world? Does going 2D alter that sense in either number of dimensions? Like, does it get an electric twang added when the dimension number is increased? Do flat smells only hit part of the nostrils? Do flat sensations work less of the brain? Is that handy for some, or does it feel like deprivation? Why, the very concept fills me with so very many questions…
