Woman: We need radical change. But the reactionaries won't allow it. So we propose a tiny symbolic change the reactionaries will allow. And if it looks like they'll say no, we forget it and give up. Man: What do you call your approach? Woman: Realism Man: Really depressing

That’s called the classic way of pandering to the “lesser of two evils” lobby. Act a leeeeetle less insane than the opposite number and get the votes. After all, you’re the “lesser” evil, right?

The Vicar’s syntax may be hard to follow, but I believe you are paraphrasing what [he] said. Paring down double negatives, Obama’s compromises emboldened the Gops.

The ACA was one of the Obama Administration’s gifts to corporate America. This country should join the civilized world in viewing health care as a right, not a privilege, and institute single payer.

I cannot see how either of the current ideologies can benefit all the American people. A superposition yes, but continual confrontation and disrespect, no. I would like to the United States united not disenchanted and angry.

Mitch said he would make Obama a one term president. Now Mitch is politicizing Scalia’s death. The Republican lies and depravity have no end.

@Comicsfan222 It means he’s blaming Dems for becoming more centrist and appealing to more Americans, for the Republicans becoming the party of wingnuts. Darn Democrats.

If we had a healthy left in this country it would be concerned with the reality of the present world. The left should stop taking religious arguments as serious answers to political questions. The moral and practical problems of capitalism cannot be reformed away from within the system. A moral social system is achievable through building a post-capitalist world. A healthy left political movement would recognize racial discrimination needs to be eliminated and is one of the most important tasks in modern society. Gender discrimination should be one of the most central responsibilities of a left political movement and it would fight sexism. The left should recognize the illegitimacy of the nation-state as a product of capitalism and imperialism. A healthy left wing would fight to eliminate borders as structures designed explicitly to separate classes. Violence is a tool of establishment and power and we need to stop waging the ceaseless campaign of violence against less powerful nations. A liberal party would not concede the language of personal freedom and political liberty to conservatism, but would insist that only economic egalitarianism can truly result in real freedom, and would work to achieve that freedom for all people in all places. Until you see a candidate speaking on these topics. Or the Republicans stop talking like this in counterpoint, we won’t have an even playing field for Left, Right and Moderate politics.

Pr. Obama’s “willingness to compromise”? Please provide examples. For example, do you mean when Obama shut all Congressional Republicans out of debating the PPACA (aka Obamacare) before it passed? Do you mean Obama’s decision to ignore his military advisers and congresspeople from both parties by pulling out of Iraq and overthrowing Gaddafi, leaving a power vacuum where ISIS formed? Do you mean him releasing prisoners from Gitmo, at least 30% of which have have either returned to the fight against the United States, or are suspected of doing so?
“Compromise” takes more than taking an extreme position and insisting that everybody else come to you.
mattro65 about 8 years ago
How many would you have him quote? 5 or 6 hundred? 5 or 6 thousand? It seems reasonable that the world could be apprehensive about another Republican president with a “Hulk smash!” foreign policy.

So, your approach to foreign policy is getting more sophisticated. Hulk not care! Hulk smash!
