Shelby Foote was a truly excellent historian. I am more than happy to both posses his three great books on the civil war, and to even have actually read all 3000+ excellent pages of his true history! He was a Southerner from Mississippi, but managed to do something that both Congress and the ultra conservatives on this site can never seem to do, in being able to see the viewpoint from the other side of political ideologies, as well as that which he was raided in. In fact, he gives this Southern Californian great hope for moderates in our great southern states, as well as the rest of this truly excellent country!!
