NAFTA was initiated and pushed for by President Bush who didn’t quite finish the agreement by the end of his term. President Clinton signed it. I don’t think they asked the Presidents wife to the signing ceremony.
Both parties seem to be big fans of neoliberalism. “Neoliberalism as an economic policy agenda which began in Chile in 1973. Its inauguration consisted of a U.S.-organized coup against a democratically elected socialist president and the installment of a bloody military dictatorship notorious for systematic torture. This was the only way to turn the neoliberal model of the so-called “Chicago Boys” under the leadership of Milton Friedman – a student of Friedrich von Hayek – into reality.” … “Anti-trust laws have lost all power since the transnational corporations set the norms. It is the corporations – not “the market” as an anonymous mechanism or “invisible hand” – that determine today’s rules of trade, for example prices and legal regulations. Strangely, this year people actually have a better choice. But only in the Democratic primary. If Clinton wins the primary, we’ll probably end up with a Republican president. And I’ll start looking to move. Vancouver, BC looks nice.
Just for the record; who of the GOP POTUS wanna-be Crew voted or railed as citizens against any of those? TR, did y’all quit your medications, the Skitzo is showing up again!
Sanders has said he’ll reject TPP the “Job killing trade deal”. If Sanders is elected TPP will be dead whether it passes Congress or not. Will we get out of NAFTA as well and bring back millions of manufacturing jobs?
CeraboogeVancouver is nice – if you like nine months of drizzle interrupted by three months of running amok for fear if you don’t, it will cause twelve months of drizzle..On the other hand, it is nice to have a family doctor who papers his waiting room walls with the tables of contents of major medical journals showing the acceptance and publication of his articles.
Both Parties need to acknowledge that the H1 Visa Program and the Illegal Immigration Program (because it really is a program) are destroying the job opportunities for the new workers coming into the work force i.e. Highschool and College graduates.
Corporations tell the politicians – “I can’t find anyone who can do this job” – And let me finish that sentence for them “At the Price I want to pay”.
It’s simple economics – If the Supply of labor goes down and the number of jobs remains the same – The price of labor will rise.
I have kids graduating from college with good job prospects but the trend is downward because the politicians are flooding the job market with cheap foreign labor.
If you want to give kids and incentive to stay in school and invest in their future – Make sure that there are job prospects waiting for them at the end of the education path.
Also – You want to see employers start showing some loyalty to their workers again and have them invest in training. Limit them to US citizens. You would be surprised how few unemployed there would be in about a year.
It’s simple economics people and both Mainstream Republicans and Democrats have turned their back on the middle class.
I take an internationalist perspective. The person in Indonesia needed a job, and so does the person in the US. The corporation took the job to Indonesia because the wages are lower. The solution is to bring wages in Indonesia and everywhere else up to a decent standard. It’s only because corporations can pay a pittance to workers overseas that they ship the jobs away from workers in the US.
