I heard once that a geek is a nerd with money. That’s all the explanation I need.

A geek is a carny that bites the heads off of chickens.

nerds originated with Dr Seuss, if I’m not mistaken, and then the word was used as a derogatory term, that was then embraced by a portion of our society. After a few decades, it’s mutated to something used as a synonym for geek, unless you’re either a geek or a nerd, and then you are probably fairly strongly opinionated on which camp you fall into. Again, I’m assuming my memory works, so please correct my if my history is off

If it means anything I’ve always considered myself a “geek”, a guy who likes computers and stuff but is still really go at throwing and hitting stuff.

The difference isn’t defined anywhere. The terms are used for the same thing but half the people you ask will say there is a difference, they just can’t agree what it is. Everyone has their own opinion. The one I like best is that Geek is more technically inclined while Nerd is more Fan that tech head.

It’s like most people don’t understand the difference between a hillbilly and a redneck.

I always thought that a Geek was just a bit nerdier than a Nerd…

I don’t know how geek David Bowie may have been, or how does he influence geek culture (though I am a geek, but it does not mean we all like the same or are equal), but you may want to dedicate a panel to him. I’ll remember ‘the Labyrinth’, and ‘China Girl’

A Geek is a professional Nerd. Geeks get paid for their nerdy knowledge, Nerds keep it in the basement.

To quote Milhouse from The Simpsons “I’m not a nerd! Nerds are smart!”

My personal definition? A geek is a nerd with some fashion sense. No tape on my glasses and no plaid shirts with pocket protectors, thank you very much!
