They don’t know how an auction works. I bet Joy ends up paying 40 for that vase. It defiantly won’t be a gift at that price. And they can’t return it. So why is she buying it? Because someone else is bidding against her.
This past summer, I stopped at a huge church rummage sale. As I was walking towards the sale, a couple very much like this lot was leaving with a shopping cart full of this, that and the other thing. I overheard the man tell his wife, “Well, that was a pretty good price for a whole lot of stuff we’ll never use”.
